Where do set-aside Monsters (Cultists, Goat Spawn and so on) come from and return to?

Question

Accepted Answer

They spawn from the set-aside pool and return there when defeated, not to the cup. If none of that type remain set aside, the spawn does nothing and nothing is encountered, even if matching Monsters sit in the cup.
