Can the Absorption Shield replace a ship's Source part?

Yes. An upgrade may replace any original part regardless of its name, as long as you follow the upgrade restrictions: the total energy consumption can't exceed production, and Interceptors, Cruisers and Dreadnoughts must keep a Drive.
