How much gear can you have equipped at once?
The rulebook's Play a Card rules state the five-square limit.

Five squares' worth. Each gear card shows a 0 to 5 equip value; if the total in your player area ever exceeds five, discard cards until it is five or fewer. Players report this gear limit is the only cap on what you have in play.
