Setup

Follow the setup as described in the base game for your chosen game mode.

Prepare the Disasters Mini Expansion as follows:

  1. Set aside the 2 cards with the "A" below the card title if you are not playing with Abundance, and the 2 cards with the [icon not legible in photo] if you are not playing with Animal Kingdom.
  2. Form the "Disasters" deck by shuffling the remaining cards together, then deal each player a hand of 3 cards.
  3. Before starting the game, each player should review their Disaster cards, then place them facedown in their play area. You may review your own Disaster cards at any time, but this information should remain hidden from other players.

How to Play

All undealt cards from setup can be returned to the box as they will not be used for this game.

The Disasters mini expansion modifies the structure of the base game by introducing a new "Disaster" phase.

On every turn, before the active player chooses an action, every player, in clockwise order starting with the active player, has one chance to "pass" or play a Disaster card.

Over the course of the game, each player may play up to 2 Disaster cards. After both have been played, they discard their remaining Disaster card and automatically "pass" in all future Disaster phases.

Playing a Disaster

Choose one of your available Disasters to play, announcing its effect to the table. Each Disaster card presents three choices with effects that scale based on the number of players targeted:

  • [icon] : Must be resolved by all players, including the person who played the card.
  • [icon] : Must be resolved by all other players, excluding the person who played the card.

Each Disaster card's icons and effects are printed on the card itself; the card effects are not reproduced here (see Gaps below).

Card Notes

The Disaster cards are not transcribed. The following card names are legible in the photo of the insert's setup display, with their effects not readable:

  • Acid Rain
  • Air Particulate
  • Changing Weather Patterns
  • Earth Axial Shift
  • Global Warming
  • Invasive Species Spread
  • Ocean Warming
  • Sandstorm
  • Soil Erosion
  • Ash Cloud

Gaps

  • The effects of the 24 Disaster cards are missing. They are printed on the cards, not on the insert, and the photo does not show them legibly.
  • The first words of the intro sentence are cut off in the photo.
  • The icon on setup step 1 and the two resolution icons are not identifiable in the photo; they are shown above as [icon].
