Components
- 72 cards ranked 1 to 8, with 24 of them having penalties (+1 and +2).
Game Overview
Be the first to play all the cards in your hand and thus win a victory point. The first player to win two points is the winner!
Setup
Shuffle the cards and deal 7 cards to each player. The remaining cards should be placed in the center of the table to form a draw pile.
The player who looks most suspicious starts the game.
Game Flow
Starting with the first player, the game proceeds clockwise. On their turn, the player must perform one of the following three actions.
1. Play cards
You must play one or more cards of the same rank, respecting the limit of four cards. If it's the first player's turn and the table is clear, they must play any meld on the table. If there is already a game on the table, the player must play a stronger combination than the previous one, which may have:
a. The same number of cards, of a higher rank.
b. Exactly one more card, of any rank.
When two or more cards are played, only one of them should be facing up. All the other cards must be played facing down, without showing them to the other players. Yes, you can bluff! No one knows if...
2. Challenge
If you don't believe the last cards played, you can challenge them! Look your opponent deep in the eyes and say, "I challenge you!" In this case, there will be two roles: the challenger and the challenged (the last to play cards). The challenged must reveal their cards and proceed as follows:
a. There was no bluff, meaning the cards really were what the challenged said they were! In this case, the challenger draws 2 cards from the pile, plus any applicable penalties. Discard all played cards and the challenged begins the next turn.
Example: Loki played two cards, claiming they were two 5s. Pinocchio challenged it. Loki was, incredibly, telling the truth. Pinocchio draws 4 cards: 2 + 2 penalty (the +1 is not considered because the card was played face up). The cards are discarded and Loki begins a new turn.
b. There was bluff, meaning the cards weren't what the challenged said they were! In this case, the challenged draws 2 cards from the pile, plus any applicable penalties. Discard all played cards and the challenger starts the next turn.
Example: Pinocchio played three cards, claiming they were three 7s. Thomas doubted him. Pinocchio was actually lying! He draws 4 cards: 2 + 2 from the penalties. The cards are discarded, and Thomas begins a new turn.
You can only challenge the last cards played. You cannot challenge a suspicious combination that has already been surpassed by another. Only the player whose turn it is can challenge a combination.
Penalties: some cards have a +1 and +2 symbol. These represent the number of additional cards the person who lost the challenge must draw.
- Penalties are only applied to face-down cards when they are revealed. Penalties played face-up are ignored.
- Penalties are cumulative, meaning that if there is a +1 on one card and a +2 on another, the player must draw 3 additional cards.
If a player needs to draw cards and the draw pile has run out, shuffle the discard pile and form a new pile.
After playing your cards, gather your courage, face the next player and challenge them firmly: "DUVIDAÊ!" (DARE TO CHALLENGE ME)!!!
3. Pass
If a player doesn't have enough cards to beat the game on the table and isn't brave enough to challenge or bluff, they may pass. In this case, they draw 1 card and pass the turn to the next player.
Passing doesn't automatically validate the last cards played; that is, the next player can still challenge the last played cards on the table!
If all players pass and the last cards played return to the player who played them, that player must discard all cards from the table and start a new turn.
Passing can be seen as a sign of weakness or shrewdness! Which is your case?
End of the Round
A player wins the round when they run out of cards, except if another player correctly challenges them (and they have to draw cards). They receive one victory point (record this in whatever way is most convenient for your group). Shuffle all the cards, deal 7 to each player, and start a new round. The starting player is the one to the left of the last player to go out.
End of the Game
The player who wins 2 points is the winner. They demonstrated skill in the art of bluffing and challenging at the right moments. If the others disagree… CHALLENGE THEM! and start a new game!!
