How to Play
The game takes place over 2 rounds, each round representing 1 week of workouts. Players will choose 7 cards to play each round, 1 for each day of the week. Players will try to score as many points as they can by strategically choosing which 7 cards to play, keeping in mind that each type of card has a unique scoring condition. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins... unless they skipped leg day. The player who played the fewest Leg Day cards during the game is eliminated no matter how many points they scored!
Setup
- Shuffle all of the cards together, then deal 9 face-down to each player.
- Place the rest of the cards in a face-down pile in the center of the table.
Anatomy of a Card
- A - Name: Name of the card / type of exercise.
- B - Background Symbol: Cards with the same background symbol score together.
- C - Scoring Condition: How this type of card scores points (see the Scoring Reference Chart).
- D - Card Count: How many of each type of card are in the deck.
Note: You will only play 7 cards this round. The remaining cards will be discarded.
Week 1
- All players simultaneously choose any 1 card to play from their hand of 9 cards. Players place this card face-down in front of themselves. When every player has played a card, everyone reveals their chosen card. This face-up card and any cards that are face-up at the end of the round are called Gym Days. These are exercises you did in front of your fellow bodybuilders in the gym.
- Note: Leg Days subtract 1 point from your score if you play them face-up (Gym Day). If you ever play a Leg Day face-up, turn it sideways as a reminder of this scoring penalty.
- The remaining cards in your hand are then passed face down to the player to your LEFT.
- Next, each player selects a card from the hand of cards that was just passed to them and places this card face-down in front of themselves to the right of the previous card. This card will remain face-down until scoring. These secret, face-down cards are called Home Days. These are exercises you did in your home gym away from your competitors.
- Repeat this process 5 more times, alternating between Gym Days and Home Days until 7 cards have been placed in a row in front of each player. Discard the remaining cards to the box. They will not be used for the remainder of the game.
Week 2
Using the deck of cards in the center of the table, deal a new hand of 9 cards to each player. Play proceeds like Week 1, except:
- The first day will be a Home Day, your second day a Gym Day, and so on.
- Players pass their hands to their RIGHT after each day.
The 7 cards you play in Week 2 are played below the 7 you played during Week 1. You can always peek at face-down cards you've played on previous days to remind yourself what cards you chose.
Reminder: pass your cards to the LEFT during Week 1 and to the RIGHT during Week 2.
Game End and Scoring
IMPORTANT: Because of the way Leg Days are scored, double check that any Gym Day (face-up) Leg Days are sideways before scoring.
- The game ends at the end of Week 2 when all players have 14 cards in front of themselves.
- All players reveal their Home Day cards. Once all players have revealed their cards, determine which player has the fewest Leg Day exercises. The player with the fewest Leg Days is eliminated from the competition. In the event that multiple players tie for least Leg Days, the tied player with the fewest Protein Shakes is eliminated. If there's still a tie, all tied players are eliminated.
- After eliminating the player(s) with the fewest Leg Days, all remaining players score their collection of exercises using the chart on page 7. All 14 of a player's cards score together as one unit. For example, if a player has 2 Overhead Press cards in the first week and 1 in the second, score a set of 3 Overhead Presses.
- The player with the highest score takes home the trophy, bro!
- In the event of a tie, the tied player with the most Leg Day cards wins. If there is still a tie, the player with the most Protein Shakes wins. If there is still a tie, players alternate naming gym equipment/machines until one player can't name something that hasn't been named.
- The other player wins.
Note: the final bullet above is reproduced as printed in the source rulebook.
Scoring Reference Chart
- Bench Press: 5 points = each set of 2
- Overhead Press: 10 points = each set of 3
- Preacher Curl: # of Preacher Curls 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 scores Points 1 / 3 / 6 / 10 / 15
- Pull-Ups: 1, 2, or 3 points each
- Protein Shake: 10 points = most shake images; 5 points = second most shake images
- Selfie: 1 point for each different background symbol on your other cards
- Leg Day: IMPORTANT - 0 points if played face-down; -1 point if played face-up. The player that plays the fewest Leg Day cards will be eliminated!
Note: Points are on the bottom of the cards, bro.
The same chart is reprinted at the end of the rulebook as "Scoring Reference (pg. 9-10)"; its contents are identical.
Example: Scoring
Scoring example, with the cards from the example player's collection (the example shows one player's cards across Week 1 and Week 2, with a total of 27 points).
- Preacher Curls: This player collected 3, which makes the set worth 6 points.
- Bench Press: Each set of 2 is worth 5 points. This player collected 1 set. The extra bench press is worth 0 points.
- Pull-Ups: These score the points shown on the cards, 1 for the underhanded pull-up and 2 each for the wide grip pull-up.
- Selfie: Each selfie is worth 1 point for each unique background symbol on your other cards. This player collected 6 unique exercises (Preacher Curls, Bench Press, Underhand Pull-ups, Wide Grip Pull-ups, Protein Shakes, and Leg Days), so each Selfie is worth 6 points.
- Protein Shake: This player collected 1 Protein Shake card with 3 Protein Shake images on it. One of their opponents has cards which feature a total of 7 Protein Shake images and another opponent's cards feature a total of 5 Protein Shake images, so this player scores 0 points for not having the most or 2nd most shakes shown on their cards.
- Leg Days: The Leg Day that was played on a Gym Day subtracts 1 point from this player's score.
Total = 27. This score may look impressive, but this player only collected 2 Leg Day cards! If that is the lowest number of Leg Day cards collected by any player, this player would be ELIMINATED!
Bro, don't get caught doing the fewest Leg Day exercises, or you LOSE.
Point Values
- Pull-Ups: The basics, bro. These score the number on the card: 1, 2, or 3 points.
- Bench Press: The bread and butter of any workout. Except, you know... less carby. Each set of 2 scores 5 points. A single Bench Press card is worth nothing. You may score multiple sets in a game.
- Overhead Press: Feel the burn, bro. These are serious business. Each set of 3 Overhead Press cards scores 10 points. A single Overhead Press card or a set of only 2 is worth nothing. You may score multiple sets in a game.
- Preacher Curl: They just keep getting better, bro. Score more points the more you collect. Maxes out at 5 in a set; additional cards after that won't score. 1, 3, 6, 10, or 15 points for the set.
-
of Preacher Curls: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5
- Points: 1 / 3 / 6 / 10 / 15
-
- Protein Shake: Part of a balanced diet. Each player adds up the number of Protein Shake images shown across ALL of their Protein Shake cards combined (6 in the example on the card page). The player with the most shakes scores 10 points. Second most scores 5 points. Tied players each get the same number of points.
- Selfie: Gotta look good too, bro. Scores 1 point for each unique background symbol on your other cards. Selfies do not count themselves because they do not have background symbols. Pull-Ups and Presses have similar names but different background symbols. Protein Shakes all have the same background symbol. Note: Every other card type has a unique background symbol.
Optional Rule
After a winner has been declared, each losing player draws a card at random and must do as many squats (or another exercise if a player is unable to do squats) as there are cards of that type in the game. Draw a Leg Day card and you're doing 30 squats, bro!
Pain is just weakness leaving the body!
