1 information card about Farplace Animal Rescue.
1 rules card.
14 days of the week cards.
40 play cards.
Set Up
Lay out the 7 days of the week cards in front of each player from Monday to Sunday.
The 7 days in front of each player is known as their board.
If more than 2 players are playing, you will need more decks.
Shuffle the play cards thoroughly, using 1 deck for 2 players, more if you have more players.
Separate out the Giganotosaurus cards.
Deal a Giganotosaurus card and 4 play cards to each player.
Playing the Game
The player who last watched a dinosaur-themed film goes first.
Each turn, you take one action:
- Draw a card OR
- Play a card
The card is drawn from the top of the deck. If the deck runs out, shuffle the discards and keep going.
Playing a card
The rules are shown on each card.
A card is USUALLY played on your own board and on an empty day.
Only when a card says ON ANY BOARD can it also be played on another player's board.
Only when a card says ON TOP OF is it played on top of another card. When it says this, the card MUST be placed on top of another card, covering over its score. If it does not say ON TOP OF, then it must be placed on an eligible empty day.
The scores are on the top of each card, showing on both sides so both left-handed and right-handed players can look at their cards easily.
There is no hand limit.
Game End
The game ends when one player has a dinosaur on every day of the week.
You then add up the scores to see who wins.
In the event of a tie, play again to determine a winner as this is a very short game.
The Cards
GIGANOTOSAURUS
A ten-point dinosaur that plays on any empty day on any board and completely removes ALL other dinosaurs on the whole board. It is usually used when an opponent has one or two days left to fill and it then wipes out their entire board. As you start with this dinosaur, it makes it important to know when every other player has played their giganotosaurus and it is safer to play high-scoring cards.
DIPLODOCUS (FRONT AND REAR)
A twelve-point dinosaur. The only cards where you must play both front and rear together at the same time as a single turn, filling two adjacent days on your own board. The meteor can still remove a diplodocus, but many other cards do not affect it so much as other dinosaurs.
TYRANNOSAURUS
A seven-point dinosaur that scares away any adjacent dinosaurs. Can be played on your own board either with nothing adjacent or to scare away low-scoring dinosaurs, or on an opponent's board to scare away high-scoring dinosaurs, even a diplodocus or giganotosaurus.
SPINOSAURUS
A five-point dinosaur that plays on any opponent's dinosaur other then diplodocus, leaving the spinosaurus with them and stealing their dinosaur to any day on your board. Practically, best when playing on tyrannosaurus or giganotosaurus, OK when playing on other five-point dinosaurs, and may still be played on lower-scoring dinosaurs if doing so finishes your board at a higher score than others still.
DILOPHOSAURUS
A five-point dinosaur that has to be played to the immediate right of any other dinosaur on your own board.
TRICERATOPS
A three-point dinosaur that plays on a Sunday on your own board.
PTERANODON
A two-point dinosaur that plays on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday on your own board.
STEGOSAURUS
A two-point dinosaur that plays on Thursday, Friday or Saturday on your own board.
BARYONYX
A one-point dinosaur that plays on any day on your own board.
MICRORAPTOR
A zero-point dinosaur that plays on top of any dinosaur on any board other than the diplodocus. Usually this will play on an opponent's high scoring dinosaur, but it can be played on your own board and then swapped to an opponent using other cards.
TIME TRAVELLING CLONING SCIENTIST
Draw three cards and keep two of them in your hand. Useful especially when trying to get the other half of the diplodocus, or if the deck has been emptied and the discards reshuffled if this includes a giganotosaurus. The non-selected card and this card go onto the discard pile.
DINOSAUR NEST
Swap either your Monday or Tuesday dinosaur with another dinosaur on the same day of another player. It does not have to be the top dinosaur but both days have to be occupied. Cannot be used on diplodocus. The card is put on the discard pile after taking the action.
VOLCANO
Swap either your Wednesday or Thursday dinosaur with another dinosaur on the same day of another player. It does not have to be the top dinosaur but both days have to be occupied. Cannot be used on diplodocus. The card is put on the discard pile after taking the action.
SKELETON
Swap either your Friday or Saturday dinosaur with another dinosaur on the same day of another player. It does not have to be the top dinosaur but both days have to be occupied. Cannot be used on diplodocus. The card is put on the discard pile after taking the action.
DINOSAUR EGGS
Swap your Sunday dinosaur with another dinosaur on the same day of another player. It does not have to be the top dinosaur but both days have to be occupied. Cannot be used on diplodocus. The card is put on the discard pile after taking the action.
METEOR
This card removes any dinosaur from any board. It does not have to be the top dinosaur and it can be a diplodocus. The card is put on the discard pile after taking the action.
Rule Clarifications
To assist with play, we have the following rule clarifications should you need them.
The cards themselves have most of the rules on them. They say when you can play on top of another card – the normal rule is you have to play on an empty day of the week.
YOUR BOARD means only your own days of the week. ANY BOARD means yours or an opponents' board.
If the deck runs out, just shuffle the discard pile and keep playing.
If cards are being hoarded and there are less than 3 cards to shuffle here, everyone must immediately discard to a hand of 5, shuffle the discards and continue.
Card placement rules only apply when first placed, not when stealing cards.
The giganotosaurus only affects the board it is played on and has to be played on an empty day.
When playing any cards like the meteor, put the meteor card onto the discard pile.
Does "scare away" means goes to discard pile? Yes it does go to discard pile.
When a micro-raptor is scared, does the card under it is scared too or can you, for example, use meteor on a micro-raptor on your board to get your original dino back? The micro-raptor only scares off the top dino to the discard pile, so it does enable you to get your original dino back.
