Game Elements
Precious Stone cards
Precious Stone cards represent one of the riches you will be able to collect during the game. They come in 6 different colors and have a value from 1 to 9 (shown by the number of stones on each card). There is amethyst (purple), diamond (white), emerald (green), ruby (red), sapphire (blue), and topaz (yellow).
Adventure cards
Adventure cards represent actions you can play to help you on your quest. These actions can be combined with each other to give you a serious advantage. There are 9 different Adventure cards. (Details on page 10.)
Idol cards
Idol cards represent the other riches you can collect during the game. An Idol card is always worth 2 points.
Skeleton cards
Skeleton cards represent a cursed treasure. Even though the skeleton has a bag of precious stones in its possession, this card is worth no points.
Adventure card anatomy: each Adventure card shows its name at the top, its effect in the text box, and — at the bottom — how many copies of that card are in the deck.
Setup
-
Give each player one Player card in the color of the precious stone they wish to collect during the game. This card is placed precious-stone side up.
Note With 3 players: remove all Precious Stone cards of one color from the game. With 2 players: remove 2 colors.
-
Shuffle the Precious Stone, Skeleton, and Idol cards together, and deal 9 of them face down to each player. Without looking at them, each player arranges their cards in front of them to form a 3x3 grid. This grid is called a Mine for the rest of the game. Each player reveals the card at the center of their Mine.
-
Shuffle the remaining cards together with the Adventure cards and place them in a face-down pile to form the draw pile.
-
Each player draws 3 cards.
-
The player who most recently dug a hole starts the game and turns their Player card to its starting-player side. Play proceeds clockwise.
Let the adventure begin!
How to Play
Important Your turn is made up of 3 phases, played in this order:
- Play cards from your hand
- Discard cards from your hand
- Draw cards
1. Play cards
During your turn, you may play up to 2 cards from your hand. You may play your cards in the order of your choice. You may also play no cards at all.
Precious Stone cards
To play a Precious Stone card, choose a face-up or face-down card of your Mine and replace it with the Precious Stone card, face up. Take the card from the Mine that was replaced into your hand without showing it (if it was face down).
- If the Precious Stone card is your color: you may place it at any position in your Mine.
- If the Precious Stone card is not your color: you must place it at the position of your Mine that matches the card's value (example 1).
Example 1: this player is collecting rubies. They decide to replace the 2nd card of their Mine with the Sapphire card of value 2.
Note: For a player collecting Ruby cards, for example, it is forbidden to replace the 2nd card of their Mine with the Diamond card of value 4.
Note: The Mine follows an increasing order from left to right and top to bottom. This order defines the position of the cards in the Mine. (See page 12.)
Adventure cards
To play an Adventure card, reveal your card and apply its effect. Then discard the card.
Idol and Skeleton cards
To play an Idol card or a Skeleton card, choose a card of your Mine and replace it with the Idol card or Skeleton card. Take the card from the Mine that was replaced into your hand.
2. Discard cards
You may discard as many cards from your hand as you wish, and you may even discard your whole hand. You may also decide to discard no cards. However, if you have more than 3 cards in hand, you must discard cards to bring your hand back down to 3 cards maximum. When you discard cards, place them face up next to the draw pile.
3. Draw cards
Fill your hand back up to 3 cards.
Note: If the draw pile is empty and a player must draw, shuffle the discard pile to form a new draw pile and continue the game.
End of turn
Your turn is over. It is now the turn of the player to your left.
Card Effects
Bag (x4)
Lets you swap the position of 2 cards (face up or face down) of your Mine.
Treasure Card (x3)
Draw 5 cards and choose one to put into your hand. Put the rest back on the draw pile in the order of your choice. Do not show the other players the cards you drew.
Dynamite (x3)
Every player discards their hand and draws 3 cards, starting with the player who played the card. Instead of going to the discard pile, the Dynamite card is removed from the game.
Idol (x4)
Lets you replace any card (face up or face down) of your Mine. The Idol card is worth 2 points at the end of the game. You may have as many as you want, but if your Mine already contains one, you may no longer play one from your hand.
Binoculars (x6)
Lets you look at a player's hand and take one card from it. In exchange, you must give them a card from your hand that is not the one you just took from them.
Skeleton (x4)
Lets you replace any card (face up or face down) of your Mine. This card is worth 0 points at the end of the game. It's up to you to figure out how to get rid of it.
Shovel (x4)
Lets you turn one card of your Mine face up.
Pickaxe (x6)
Lets you take any card from the Discard pile (viewable by any player at any time). To play this card, you must also discard a card from your hand.
Suspension Bridge (x6)
Lets you swap a card (face up or face down) of your Mine for a card from another player's Mine (regardless of its value). It is not possible to give a card of your own color or to take a card of your opponent's color.
Underground River (x6)
Lets you carry out an underground river. To do this, draw one card per player plus one, reveal them, and place them face up in the middle of the table. Each player takes a card of their choice, starting with the player who played this card. That same player also takes the remaining card.
Torch (x4)
Lets you look at a face-down card of a Mine belonging to 2 different players (this can include your own Mine). The cards looked at are put back in place and are not revealed to the other players.
End of the Game
The end of the game is triggered as soon as a player has completely filled their Mine with face-up cards.
The current round is finished so that all players play the same number of times.
Then each player turns over the face-down cards remaining in their Mine and counts their points as follows:
- 1 Precious Stone card of their color in the correct position: 3 points
- 1 Precious Stone card of their color in the wrong position: 2 points
- 1 Precious Stone card that is not their color, in the correct position: 1 point
- 1 Precious Stone card that is not their color, in the wrong position: 0 points
- 1 Idol card: 2 points
- 1 Skeleton card: 0 points
The sum of the 9 cards in the Mine is the total score.
The player with the most points wins the game.
In case of a tie, the player with the most consecutive cards of their color, in order, wins the game.
Note: Correct position: when the value of the Precious Stone card matches the position in the Mine. Example: a Topaz card of value 2 in position 2.
Wrong position: when the value of the Precious Stone card does not match the position in the Mine. Example: a Ruby card of value 6 in position 3.
Scoring Examples
Example 1
Score of the player collecting rubies: 12 + 2 + 2 + 0 + 2 = 18 points
- 4 cards of the correct color and correct position (Ruby cards 1, 5, 7, 9): 3+3+3+3 = 12 points
- 1 card of the correct color and wrong position (Ruby card 6): 2 points
- 2 cards of the wrong color and correct position (Sapphire card 2, Emerald card 4): 1+1 = 2 points
- 1 card of the wrong color and wrong position (Diamond card 4): 0 points
- 1 Idol card: 2 points
Example 2
Score of the player collecting sapphires: 6 + 4 + 2 + 4 + 0 = 16 points
- 2 cards of the correct color and correct position (Sapphire card 2, 3): 3+3 = 6 points
- 2 cards of the correct color and wrong position (Sapphire card 5, 8): 2+2 = 4 points
- 2 cards of the wrong color and correct position (Amethyst card 5, Ruby card 8): 1+1 = 2 points
- 2 Idol cards: 2+2 = 4 points
- 1 Skeleton card: 0 points
Solo Variant
To play this variant, you only need the Precious Stone cards and the Skeleton cards. Put the other cards (Adventure and Idol) back in the box.
The goal of this variant is to complete 4 Mines (one color per Mine) before you draw the 4th Skeleton card.
Setup
- Choose 4 colors of Precious Stones and shuffle them together with the Skeleton cards.
- Form 4 Mines (3x3 cards face down). Choose the color of each Mine (you can use the Player cards to identify the color of each Mine).
- The remaining 4 cards form your draw pile.
To play
Draw the first card and place it according to its number in the corresponding Mine.
Take back, in exchange, the card from the Mine that was replaced. It becomes the next card to place. Continue in this way to try to complete everything.
As soon as you draw a Skeleton card, place it in front of you and draw a new card to keep playing.
If you draw the 4th Skeleton card before completely finishing all of the Mines, you have lost.
Try to go as far as possible and attempt a perfect game.
GOOD LUCK!
FAQ
Q: If it's not my turn to play, can I look at the discard pile? A: Yes.
Q: If I complete my Mine first, triggering the end of the game, and then a following player swaps a face-down card with me using the Suspension Bridge card, is the end of the game cancelled? A: No, because as soon as a player has completely filled their Mine, the end of the game is triggered, even if their Mine becomes incomplete again during the last round of play.
Q: If I already have an Idol card in my Mine, can I have another one with the Suspension Bridge card? A: Yes, because there is no limit to the number of Idol cards you may have in your Mine.
Q: If I have 2 Idol cards in my hand and no Idol card in my Mine, can I play both of them on my turn? A: No, because as soon as your Mine contains 1 Idol card, you may no longer play one from your hand.
Q: If the draw pile is empty, does the game stop? A: No. Shuffle the discard pile to form a new draw pile and continue the game.
Q: I collect rubies. An opponent has a Ruby card of value 6 in position 2 in their Mine, and I have a Diamond card of value 4 in position 6. If I play the Suspension Bridge card, can I swap these two cards with each other? A: Yes, because the Suspension Bridge card lets you exchange between 2 Mine positions of your choice, not between card values.
Q: I collect diamonds. Can I replace the 4th card of my Mine with a Ruby card of value 2 from my hand? A: No, because a card that is not your color must be played only in the Mine position that matches it. Here, the Ruby card of value 2 must be played in position 2 of your Mine.
