What Is It About?
In Dicecream you assemble delicious ice cream sundaes by rolling dice cleverly. The colors of the dice stand for different flavors of ice cream and ingredients. You may use not only your own dice results, but also dice rolled by other players. At the end of the game all sundaes are scored. Whoever scores the most points wins the game.
Game Components
- 18 bonus cards
- 1 tear-off pad with sundaes
- 5 dice of different colors
- 4 pencils
Setup
Everyone receives a sheet from the tear-off pad and a pencil. The 5 dice are placed ready.
Depending on the number of players (2, 3 or 4), 10, 8 or 6 cards respectively of the shuffled bonus cards are placed in the middle of the table as a face-down stack.
The Sundaes
On each sheet of the tear-off pad you will find 4 sundaes. The structure of a sundae is described here.
- A - Sundae (bowl): Every one of your creations must of course be served in a bowl. It has a space for a die, to unlock the sundae for the current turn. How that works is described below.
- B - Ice cream cubes: Above the bowl you can see the tasty ice cream cubes. Each sundae has three flavors of ice cream. The ice cream cubes also each have room for one die. Point values are entered in these spaces.
- C - Cream: On top sits a thick swirl of whipped cream. Two die spaces are drawn here, which can be filled with point values of the white die. There is also a bonus to be won here.
- D - Toppings: Each sundae is crowned with three fruity toppings. Here you can tick whether the topping has been placed on the sundae.
The Game Flow
Depending on the number of players, the game is played over the following number of rounds:
- With 2 players: 5 rounds
- With 3 players: 4 rounds
- With 4 players: 3 rounds
In each round, all of you take exactly one turn. The player who most recently ate an ice cream sundae begins.
When it is your turn, you take all 5 dice and roll them. Then you distribute the dice onto your sundaes according to the rules described below. The values of the dice may no longer be changed.
After you have finished distributing the dice in accordance with the rules, you enter the point values of the dice at the ice cream cubes and the cream, and tick the added toppings.
The values of the dice that you used to unlock a sundae, as well as the values of unused dice, are forfeited.
Afterwards play continues clockwise.
When it is your turn, all the others may also each choose a die and enter it on their own sheet. Only those dice may be chosen that you used for ice cream cubes, cream or toppings.
Several players may also choose the same die. The others may also use dice as toppings that you placed on the ice cream cubes, and vice versa.
The dice that you use to unlock a sundae, or that you did not use, are also not available for the other players to choose. You may also choose to forgo choosing and enter nothing.
On your sheet you also have two chocolate-bean spaces. You may use each of these spaces once per game to re-roll any number of dice of your own roll before you begin assigning and entering them. After using it, you cross off one of the chocolate-bean spaces.
The Preparation
If in your own turn you want to fill the die spaces for ice cream flavors or cream, or the tick boxes for toppings, of a sundae, that sundae must first be unlocked for the current roll.
To do this, a die must be placed in the bowl's space whose color matches the color of the bowl.
If you cannot or do not want to do this, no dice can be used for this sundae in this turn.
Once you have unlocked the sundae in this way, you can use further dice to prepare the sundae.
Dice can then be placed on the ice cream cubes if their color matches the color of the ice cream cube.
The white die can be placed on one of the two cream spaces. If the white die shows a 1, 2 or 3, the left cream space must be used; if it shows a 4, 5 or 6, the right cream space is used.
If one of these spaces on the ice cream cubes or the cream already contains a number, no die may be placed there any more.
For the toppings, you can use dice of the corresponding topping color to tick toppings. The die number plays no role when ticking.
Each topping can only be ticked once.
Important rule: The sum of all die numbers that I place in this turn on the ice cream cubes or the cream of a sundae, or with which I tick toppings, may be at most as high as the die number of the die that unlocks the sundae.
Example: The blue sundae was unlocked by placing the blue die (showing a 5). In the blue sundae, the red ice cream cube and the left half of the cream were each filled with a "2". The "1" of the yellow topping completes the bowl. The sum of the three dice reaches exactly the "5" of the blue die.
It can and will happen that you cannot or do not want to distribute all dice in this way. The dice that you do not assign are then forfeited for everyone in this turn.
End of a Round
When a round is over, that is, when everyone has taken one turn, the top two bonus cards are taken from the stack and revealed.
Everyone may now use the bonus effect of one of the two cards. Afterwards the two cards are removed from the game.
Example: As a bonus, entering a "4" in the right cream half was used. The cream swirl is thus complete and 2 extra points are ticked.
After the last two bonus cards, the game ends immediately.
Now play continues with scoring.
Scoring
At the end of the game, everyone adds up the points of their four sundaes. Whoever has the most points wins the game.
For each sundae, the points are added that are written in the spaces of the ice cream cubes.
To these, the points in the two spaces for the cream are added. If both cream spaces on this sundae are filled in, 2 further points are added as a bonus.
If all three topping boxes of a sundae are ticked, the total score of this sundae is doubled. If two or fewer toppings are ticked, the score is not doubled.
You write the total score of a sundae in the free space at the bottom of the bowl.
For each of the two chocolate beans that you did not use, you receive a further 2 points.
The totals of all 4 sundaes and the chocolate-bean points are added and give the final total score.
In case of a tie, whoever has more unused chocolate beans left wins.
If still tied, whoever has crowned their own sundaes with more toppings in total wins.
And in case of a further tie, all of you may lick your ice cream together as winners.
Scoring example:
- The blue sundae scores 2 points for the red ice cream cube and 8 points for the completed cream swirl. Total = 10.
- The yellow sundae scores 4 points for the ice cream cubes and 5 for the right cream half. Since all toppings were ticked, the points are doubled. Total = 18.
- The red sundae scores only 5 points for the green ice cream cube and 3 points for the left cream half. Total = 8.
- The green sundae scores 10 points for the ice cream cubes and 7 points for a complete cream swirl. This is doubled by three ticked toppings. Total = 34.
- 2 points for an unused chocolate bean are added.
- In total = 72 points.
