How to use Mercenaries

If you decide to use the Mercenaries in a game, please follow the rules in this paragraph.

  • Up to 4 players game - Only 1 Mercenary.
  • More than 4 players game - Max 2 Mercenaries.

Once players determined the first Turn Priority, they can choose or pick randomly the Mercenary or the Mercenaries to use in the game.

  • Up to 4 players game - The chosen Mercenary has to be placed in an adjacent Region to one containing a Neutral Refuge, chosen by the last player in turn order.
  • More than 4 players game - The second Mercenary has to be placed by the second last player in Priority order. The chosen Region has to be adjacent to one containing a Neutral Refuge and at least by a distance of 1 Region to the first mercenary.

How to Hire a Mercenary

When a player moves their own Leader in the same Region where a not hired Mercenary is, the player can hire the Mercenary if they meet the Hiring requirements for that Mercenary. This way, the player also acquires the Mercenary card, placing it next to their Faction Pad. The hired Mercenary is now considered a Faction model for the rest of the game. Each Faction can control up to 1 Mercenary during a game.

During the Game

The Mercenary is considered a Leader and can be activated (alone or in a group) using the regular symbols on Action cards or Candy Boost. Also Mercenaries bring unique abilities as described on their cards.

End of Game

At the end of the game, the player who controls a Mercenary gains 6 additional Supplies while counting the Supplies provided by the Action Cards.

Mercenary Card: Mad & Max

A) Hiring: in order to control Mad & Max, the player has to move their own Leader to the same Region as Mad & Max and to control 3 or more Outposts of the same color.

B) Skill - Snowbug: Mad & Max can move only in Ground Regions, ignoring the Majorities, but never with other Faction Units. The player can use only 1 Movement Icon on each Action Card in order to move Mad & Max.

At the end of Mad & Max movement, the player who controls them chooses 1 of the following actions:

  • Collect a Resource in the Region;
  • Use the skull-symbol Action on an opponent with at least 1 Scrapper in the same Region where Mad & Max are.

Note: the Mad & Max card shows the Hiring requirement as A and the Skill as B. The skull symbol is printed on the card and in the rules text as an icon without a written name; it is transcribed here as the "skull-symbol Action" as it appears on the card.
