Components
- 1 game board
- 25 hedges
- 25 snap buttons
- 4 transparent character pieces
- 4 player cards for remembering your colour
- 24 task cards
- 28 magic cards
Goal
Be the first to reach the six objects shown on your task cards and be the first to stand at the right gate of the magic garden.
Setup
- Build the hedges along the stone lines.
- Place the shuffled magic cards in a stack face down.
- Choose a character and place it at one of the gates of the Magic Garden.
- Shuffle the task cards and deal six to each player as a face-down stack. Set the remaining task cards aside; they are not needed.
- Place your player card in front of you to remember your colour. (Only at the very end of the game is this card used differently.)
- Turn over the top card of your task stack.
Turn Structure
The youngest player starts, and play continues clockwise. On your turn you perform two actions, in any order: (1) move your character piece and (2) rotate a hedge. You may move your piece, then rotate a hedge, then continue moving your piece.
1. Rotate a hedge
Rotate between 1 and 3 hedge sections so that your path to your target treasure is cleared. Character pieces adjacent to a hedge move along with it. If you wish, you may rotate a hedge that your opponent has just moved, or you may choose not to rotate at all.
2. Move your character piece
Move your character through the maze any distance in a straight line and with turns, but only along paths that are not blocked by a hedge. Only one piece may occupy a space. During your turn you may jump over other players' pieces. If an opponent's piece stands on the space showing your task, you are permitted, in this exceptional case, to stand on that same space and complete your task.
Completing a Task
When you reach your target treasure, turn over one more task card. Then the turn passes to the next player.
Failing to Complete a Task
If you have not completed your task, stop on any space closer to your goal. Draw the top magic card from the deck and place it face up in front of you. You may collect magic cards and use them later at any time. Your turn now ends.
Magic Cards
Magic cards help you reach your destination faster. You may use one or more cards in addition to your 2 regular actions.
Hedge gap card (Живая изгородь-лазейка)
With this card you may pass a hedge without rotating it and continue your path on the other side.
Forest fairy flight card (Полет лесной феи)
This ability may only be used after you have collected two such cards. They work as portals: they carry you from one fairy space on the board to the other. From there you may immediately continue your path.
Example of a multi-step turn
A player has two forest fairy flight cards and wants to complete the task with the rat. First he goes to a hedge, moves it down, and passes through to the space beyond. He then heads to a forest fairy, going around the unblocked walls of the maze, and immediately flies to the other forest fairy, the one nearest the rat. The rat is obtained!
Player Card
When you complete your last task, the player to your left takes your player card and places it next to any magic gate of the garden. This becomes your final goal. If you do not reach the gate in one turn, draw a magic card.
End of Game
The game is won by the player who completes all of their tasks and is the first to bring their character to the designated gate of the Magic Garden.
