- 1 Komodo Dragon
- 20 Museum Bonus Tiles
Setup
-
After step 16 of the "Main Board Setup" in the base game, place the Special Wax Seals (purple) next to the main board instead of on the silver plate.
-
Randomly place 1 face-up Museum Bonus tile over each +1 coin symbol in the bottom right corner of each space in the Museum display.
-
Then place 4 Museum Bonus tiles face-up on the silver plate.
-
Place the Komodo Dragon above the tiles on the silver plate.
Deliver Specimen
When the active player delivers a Specimen to the Museum, instead of gaining the printed coins for empty spaces, they immediately gain the bonuses on the Museum Bonus tiles. As in the base game, they also gain the Evolution marker advancements and the newly placed Specimen does not give a bonus.
Remove the Museum Bonus tile from the space where the Specimen was placed and add it to the end of the bottom-most row of tiles on the silver plate. If there are already four tiles in a row on the silver plate, start a new row.
Move the Komodo Dragon to the Specimen tile on the Island or Ocean track corresponding to the delivered Specimen.
Important: The Komodo Dragon only moves when a player performs the Deliver Specimen action on the main board. The Komodo Dragon does not move when a player uses a Special tile or other bonus to perform a delivery.
Discovering the Komodo Dragon
The Komodo Dragon is a rare Specimen that players can discover while exploring or navigating. If the active player's Explorer or Ship stops their movement on a location with the Komodo Dragon, they discover the Komodo Dragon and immediately gain all of the bonuses currently shown on the Museum Bonus tiles on the silver plate.
After gaining the rewards, remove the top left-most Museum Bonus tile on the silver plate. Shift the remaining tiles in the top row to the left and fill the right-most space with the left-most tile from the next row (if there is one). Repeat for any additional rows. Tiles on the silver plate must remain in order and cannot be rearranged.
Note: Players must move their Explorer or Ship at least 1 space to discover the Komodo Dragon. Players may pass the Komodo Dragon but they do not gain any bonuses.
The active player continues their turn and researches the Specimen on the location where their Ship or Explorer stopped.
The player may gain an Objective tile from anywhere in the Objective discard pile.
Example: The yellow player performs an Exploration action and stops their Explorer's movement on the same Location as the Komodo Dragon. They immediately receive 4 Coins, 4 Points, and may choose one discarded Objective tile from the ones discarded (if any). The +2 Coin tile is removed from the game and all the other tiles shift over, careful not to change their order. They continue their turn and research the blue bird.
