Game material

108 cards in 4 colors; 27 cards per color with the numbers 1 to 9. Each number is represented three times in each color.

Goal of the game

Try to collect as many points as possible in each color without exceeding the limit of 15 points. The player who has the most points after 5 rounds wins.

Set-up

The cards are shuffled and placed in an easily accessible face-down stack on the table.

Play of the game

1. Draw a card

On your turn, you draw a card and set it face-up in front of yourself. Gradually, you will have more and more cards in front of you. The cards are sorted into rows by color. You must place the drawn card in the corresponding colored row as long as the row is not protected or closed!

2. Protect a card row

After a card has been drawn and placed, you may protect a card row, i.e. you won't place cards in that row any more starting with your next draw.

You may protect any of your rows as long as they are not the same color of the card drawn this turn.

You protect a card row in order to keep points already collected in that row. A row that consists only of one card may also be secured. The last card of the row is turned 90° to indicate that it has been protected.

3. Close a card row

The numbers of all cards in a row are continuously summed. The limit of 15 points may not be exceeded. If this should happen, that color is closed and will score 0 points. The last card of the closed row is turned face-down to indicate that the limit has been exceeded.

4. Discard a card if necessary

If you draw a card of a secured or closed color in later rounds, this card is discarded face-up. You don't draw a replacement card for it. The next player now takes his turn. He may draw a card from the stack or he may take the card that was discarded by the player before him.

A discarded card may only be taken by the next player, immediately after it was discarded. It may not be taken later.

Overview of protection rules

  • Protecting is not allowed at the beginning of the game. You must have 2 or more cards in front of you before you may protect a row.
  • You must draw and place a card before protecting a row.
  • You may only protect one row per turn.
  • The player with the smallest sum in a color may not protect that row.
  • If more than one player has the same sum in a color, no one may protect that color row.
  • A player's fourth, and consequently last color, may only be protected if the player has 6 or more cards in that row.

End of a round

The round ends immediately when any player protects or closes his fourth card row. Scoring then occurs.

Scoring a round

  • Players determine the sum of the cards in each of their card rows. If the sum of any row is greater than 15 points, that row will score 0.
  • Now determine which card row in each color has the smallest sum. That row in each color is discarded, scoring no points for that player.

Anton has achieved 11 points with his red card row, Bert 7 points, and Chris 13 points. Bert must discard his red cards and he doesn't score the 7 points.

In the blue cards, Anton has had bad luck. His row is closed and it counts 0 points. All the other players get the sum of their blue cards as points. [Trans. note: presumably unless they also exceeded a sum of 15 in blue - PC]

If more than one player has the same smallest sum in a color, the number of cards each played in that color breaks the tie. The player with fewer cards played in that color discards his cards and does not score for that color.

Bert and Chris have only 3 points in their green card row, which is the smallest sum in that color. Bert has a "1" and a "2" and, thus, two cards. Chris has a "3" in his row and, thus, only one card. Chris' 3 points don't score while Bert's do.

If the tied players have the same number of cards, they all discard their cards and don't score for that color.

Players now record the sum of all their scoring rows.

All played cards are discarded. The next round is played with the remaining stack. The player with the lowest score begins the next round. If the card stack is depleted, the discarded cards are shuffled to form a new card stack.

End of the game

The player with the highest score after five rounds wins the game.
