Rules of the Game

This version of CubiCup is played by two players. A game takes about 5 - 10 minutes.

The players then place their chosen coloured cubes by turn until the pyramid is built.

The player who places the last cube on the peak is the winner! (Figure 1.)

The strategic target of the game is that the opponent has to run out of his cubes first.

A formation of three same-coloured cubes is the CubiCup, the cube chalice. The cube chalice is the strategic resource of the game. (Figure 2, marked with an arrow.)

Supplement (Hungarian rules page): the cubes should be placed tightly next to each other, because this gives a greater chance of forming cube chalices.

If a player can build together a CubiCup, the opponent has to refill it with his own cube and then place another one wherever he can. (Figure 3.)

The opponent will have fewer cubes than the player who made the cube chalice.

Supplement (Hungarian rules page): besides his next cube, the opponent must also fill the chalice, so he keeps fewer cubes in his hand and his chance of winning decreases.

The more CubiCups a player puts together, the greater his chance of becoming the winner. The opponent has to fill all the CubiCups and place one more cube wherever he wants. (Figure 4.)

Supplement (Hungarian rules page): one cube placement can form several chalices at once. The opponent then has to refill every one of them, in addition to his next cube, so he can lose several cubes at once.

If a player places the last cube on the peak into the opponent's cube chalice, the game is a draw.

Have a good fun! Have a good CubiCup!

For Advanced Players

(Source: the Hungarian "Haladóknak" page, translated into English. This is an optional rule; the publisher's own English site has no equivalent.)

Experienced players can make the match harder by giving some of their own cubes to each other, for example 5 each. A placed "opponent cube" belongs to the opponent's cubes by its colour, so it will either strengthen or weaken that opponent's position, depending on how and when it is used.
