Goal of the Game

Discard your cards so that you have as few penalty points as possible at the end of the game.

Setup

  • 5 players: use all 46 Cat cards.
  • 4 players: before the start of the game, remove the 9 Cats of value 1.
  • 3 players: remove the 9 Cats of value 1, the 8 Cats of value 2 and the Cat of value 9.
  • Each player places a Player Aid in front of them.
  • Place the Arrow card pointing clockwise, between 2 players.
  • Take something to keep score (paper, a smartphone, or cat kibble).

Playing the Game

The youngest player (in the first round) or the player with the highest score (in later rounds) is the starting player. They deal 9 cards to each player. They give the last card to the player on their right, who therefore has 10 cards in hand. Then the starting player begins the game.

On their turn, a player:

  1. MUST first draw one card at random from the hand of the previous player (in the first turn of a round, their neighbour on the right).
  2. MAY then discard, face up in the centre of the table, a pair of Cats:
    • Either of the same COLOUR, which triggers no effect.
    • Or of the same VALUE, which immediately triggers a special effect that the player MUST apply.

Note: if a player discards a pair that is both the same colour and the same value, they apply the effect.

The effects (also summarised on the Player Aid) are:

  • 1+1: Immediately discard all your other "1" cards. (No effect if you have no other "1".)
    • or reverse the direction of play (turn the Arrow card the other way).
  • 2+2: Choose the card that the next player must draw from your hand. (They do not draw at random.)
    • or reverse the direction of play (turn the Arrow card the other way).
  • 3+3: AFTER the next player has taken a card from your hand, discard one of your cards and replace it with the card of your choice taken from the discard pile.
    • or reverse the direction of play (turn the Arrow card the other way).
  • 4+4: Choose a card from your hand and give it to the player of your choice who is still in play.
  • 5+5: Choose a card from the discard pile for each opponent still in play. These opponents add that card to their hand.
  • 6+6: You may immediately discard another pair of Cats. If it is a pair of the same VALUE, also apply its special effect.
  • 7+7: The next player must draw TWO cards (if possible) at random from your hand instead of one.
  • 8+8: The next player must draw THREE cards (if possible) at random from your hand instead of one.

Passing and Leaving a Round

  • As soon as a player has no cards left in hand, they leave the round, saying "MIAOUUUUU". The round continues without them.
  • When a player cannot discard any pair, they simply say "I PASS", turn their Player Aid face down, and the next player takes their turn.
  • A player who has passed always has the right to play if their turn comes around again. If they play, they turn their Player Aid face up again.

Ending a Round

A round ends if:

  1. Only one player is left with cards in hand. That player finishes their turn (so they may discard a pair and apply its effect if they have a valid target). Then they receive a penalty equal to the sum of the values of the cards left in their hand.
  2. All players still in play successively say "I PASS". To tell, check whether all the Player Aids of the players still in play are face down. In this situation, ALL players who still have cards in hand receive a penalty equal to the sum of the values of the cards left in their hand.

Example: three players are still in play and say "I PASS" one after another. They reveal their cards and receive penalty points. Gaspard holds a 6 and a 5 and receives 11 points, Céline holds a 7 and receives 7 points, and Mattéo holds a 4 and receives 4 points.

Note: players who managed to leave the round before it ended, by discarding all their cards, receive no penalty. Well played!

End of the Game

Players accumulate their penalty points over 2 rounds. At the end of the second round, the player with the fewest penalty points wins!

In case of a tie, play a 3rd round.

Warning: The Momistigri

The special Cat of value 10 is the only card of its colour AND its value. It therefore cannot be paired with any other card!

Holding it in hand at the end of a round guarantees 10 penalty points. The best approach is to get rid of it and leave it to the other players (if they draw it from your hand, or with a pair of 4), or to place it in the discard pile (with a pair of 3).

Be careful: if you place it in the discard pile too early, it will easily come back into play with a pair of 5.
