Game Idea
Nighttime is quickly approaching and it's time to get the animals back to the barn for bedtime. But what's happening? The animals keep running away from the barn! Are the other players causing this? A strong memory and some luck with the die will help you in this crazy corralling game. The player who manages to collect all five of their animals wins the game.
Before the First Game
Place the six different stickers on the six sides of the die.
Preparation
Each player receives five cardboard tiles of one barn color and randomly places the tiles, animal side face up, in front of them. All five animals should be easily visible to all players. Place the die in the center of the table.
How to Play
This game requires a good memory. While playing the game players should try to remember where the other players' animals are, as this becomes important during the game!
Once the players randomly lay out their tiles in front of them the tiles must remain in that order; they cannot change position during the game. The player who can best crow like a rooster may begin the game by rolling the die.
Did You Roll an Animal That Is Face-Up in Front of You?
Good job; you may now put this animal into the barn. Simply turn the animal over so that the barn side of the tile is face up. This animal is now tucked into the barn, ready for bedtime.
Important Crazy Corral rule! If the animal you rolled is NOT in the barn yet, you may instead choose to let another player's animal OUT of their barn. This can be a smart way of perhaps preventing another player from winning, even though it may slow you down!
Did You Roll an Animal That Is Already in the Barn?
Now is when this corral game gets crazy! Take a look at the other players' animals. If there are one or more other players who already have this same animal tile turned over to the barn side (hopefully you paid attention to where it was when it was face up) you may now try to release the animal from another player's barn. Simply choose one tile and flip it over to see the animal. If you are correct, you have successfully freed the animal and the tile remains animal side face up!
If you turn over an animal tile that does not match the die roll then you must let the animal sleep; flip it back over to the barn side.
If the animal you rolled is already in the barn (flipped over to the barn side in front of you) but still free for ALL other players (meaning that they are still turned animal side face up), then you can't do anything and it is the next player's turn.
Did You Roll the Barn Symbol?
You are lucky! The barn is a free choice roll which means you can select any animal! You can choose to:
- tuck any one of your animals into the barn by turning over an animal tile to the barn side
or
- release an animal of your choice from one of the other players.
If you choose this option you must first announce which animal it will be. If you turn over an animal tile that is different than the one you announced, you must turn the animal tile back over to the barn side.
End of the Game
The game ends as soon as one player has all five animals in their barn; in other words all of their tiles must have the barn side facing up. This player has been the fastest to corral the animals and has won the game!
Tip
You can also use an hourglass or egg timer to make the game more exciting. Set it, for example, for 5 or 10 minutes. When this time is up the player with the most animals in their barn is the winner. If multiple players have the same number of animals turned over when the time is up, the game ends in a tie.
