Preparation Flyer
Translated from the Russian-language edition's Preparation flyer (the game's only printed instructions).
Start by preparing for the game
- Only take components when the game tells you to. In general, obey the game — it will guide you through the story itself. For now, get out pencils, erasers, and paper: this way you can take notes as the game goes on. Each of you take a blindfold for yourself.
- Close the doors and turn off phones, so reality doesn't distract you from the game.
- Place these decks of cards on the table, without shuffling them or peeking at what's on them:
- a deck of 11 Event cards
- a deck of 58 Nightmare cards
- a deck of 10 Room cards
- a deck of 13 Memory cards
- For atmosphere, you can dim the lights and light candles or phone flashlights. Just make sure everyone will still be able to read and look at the cards when needed.
- Lay out the Room cards according to the diagram below. The numbers on the diagram are the numbers on the Room cards. This is the game board — it is the Crafton Mansion. Place the red token next to it.
- Remember: cards must be read fully and carefully. If a card contains a character's direct speech, it is read aloud by whoever plays that character.
Diagram of the table layout: Memory cards and Event cards sit to one side. The Mansion is built from the 10 Room cards, laid out in three rows of numbers — 5, 9 on the top row; 1, 3, 7 and 2, 4, 8 flanking a middle row of 6, 10 — with the Nightmare card deck beside it. The Character Profiles (do not take yet) sit near the Preparation flyer you are currently reading.
- Prepare a laptop or tablet with an internet connection (you need a large screen — a mobile phone will not work). Go to www.nightmarehorrorgame.com, enter the code found on your copy of the game, and press "Start Game."
You are ready to play. Have a good evening!
