Components
- 7 historic landmarks of the city with values 1 to 7.
- 1 start player tile (showing the logo of the game).
- 2 sets of 10 cards each with powers 1 to 10.
Game Idea
Both players start with one set of cards and play them alternately next to one of the landmarks.
When all cards have been played, the player with the highest total power next to a landmark controls this landmark. The player with the highest total value of controlled landmarks wins the game.
Preparation
Display the landmarks in an ordered line between the players. Each player chooses one set of 10 cards, shuffles the cards and uses them as an individual face down deck. Each player draws one card from the deck into his or her hand.
Play
One player is selected as the start player and takes the corresponding tile. The start player plays the one card from his or her hand face down next to one of the landmarks and pulls the landmark towards him or her to indicate control of the landmark. At the end of the turn, the player draws a new card from the deck into his or her hand.
Then it is the other player turn to play his or her card next to one of the landmarks and to refresh his or her hand from the deck. In this way, play alternates between the two players.
Important
-
A player may not place a card next to a landmark where the opponent just played a card [Note: the start player tile can be used to remember the last landmark where a card has been played].
-
As long as only one player has played cards on a landmark, all the cards stay face down. But the number of played cards must always be visible.
-
When both players have played at least one card next to the same landmark, all cards at this landmark are turned face up and all future cards played there are also placed face up. The individual card values must always be visible. The landmark is pulled towards the player who has the higher total power at the landmark, with the start player winning all ties.
-
See the example diagram in the Spanish rules.
Game End
The game ends when all cards have been played. Then both players count the values of the landmarks they control. The player with the highest total value wins the game. In the case of a tie, the player who controls the value 1 landmark wins.
Recommendation: Play two games with each player starting once. The scores from both games are added together with the higher total determining the victor.
Hand Variations: 3
The game becomes more tactical, if each player starts with three cards in the hand. After playing one of their cards, players conclude their turn by refreshing another card from the deck.
Hand Variations: 10
Going even further, players may agree to start with all 10 of their cards in their hands.
Landmark Variations
The game becomes tighter when only six or five landmarks are used. Players may agree to play without the value 1 landmark or without the value 1 and value 2 landmarks.
