Components
3 Skillset Decks, each with 6 cards: 6 Alchemist cards, 6 Mechanist cards, 6 Archivist cards.
Each card shows a rank, a goal, and a discard effect.
Setup
Shuffle all 18 cards together, and distribute them as follows:
- Deal a 3-card hand to each player.
- Place 1 card face-down in front of the player who most recently lost a game. This is the artifact and will remain face-down for the entire game.
- Place 1 card face-up between both players to start the discard pile.
- Place the remaining cards in a face-down pile between both players to form the draw deck.
The play area consists of Player 1 Faction, the Shared Goals Area (between the players), and Player 2 Faction.
Gameplay
The game consists of three rounds played over a series of turns. Each turn, players attempt to fulfill goals and take the artifact. Every turn, the player with the artifact plays a card from their hand, then the other player plays a card.
Playing a Card
Each card may be played in one of three ways:
- Use Discard Effect: Resolve the effect at the bottom of the card, then discard it.
- Declare Goal: Place it face up between both players as a shared goal.
- Add to Faction: Place it face up in either player's faction.
Note: A player may add cards to their opponent's faction, and use discard effects to modify it.
End of Turn
After both players have played a card, tally their scores from the shared goals. If a player's faction fulfills a goal, they receive 1 point for each star in that goal.
Goals which require the "fewest," "most," "highest," or "lowest" only grant a point if there is a single winner. Other goals can be fulfilled by both players at once.
- If the player who began the turn with the artifact retains it and has more points, they win the game!
- If the other player has more points, they take the artifact.
- If both players have the same number of points, the artifact does not move.
If neither player has won, each player draws a card and they play the next turn. Play continues after the draw deck is empty until a winner is declared. If both players' hands are empty and no one has won, the player with the artifact wins!
End of Turn Scoring
Example (illustrated on the sheet):
Player 1
- 1 point from "Highest Mechanist".
- 2 points from "3 cards with consecutive ranks".
Player 2 (began the turn with the artifact)
- 1 point from "highest number of different skillsets".
- 2 points from "3 cards with consecutive ranks".
As there is a tie, the artifact does not move and a new turn begins. If all 16 cards have been played, player 2 wins as they have the artifact.
Winning the Game
The first player to achieve one of the following wins the round:
- Have retained the artifact in a turn and have the most points at the end of that turn.
- Have the artifact after all 16 cards have been played.
The first player to win two rounds wins the game!
Combining Sets
Converge can be played using any three Skillset Decks from Catalysts of Change, Sparks of Hope and Engines of Progress.
Choose three Skillset Decks to use in this game. Take the 6 cards for each chosen skillset and shuffle them together to form an 18 card deck, then continue from step 1 of Setup.
