Game Description

  • The player who scores the most points, wins the game.
  • You can score points eating your opponents tokens (1 point each eaten token) or achieving a Connect 5 (5 points).
  • Once any player achieves Connect 5, the round is over.

Rules

The player who, at the end of all rounds scores more points, wins the game.

If, during a round, none of the players scores a Connect 5 or if there are no more available free dots on the game board and it's not possible to place or move any token, the round is over and the final score is calculated counting the tokens that have been eaten by each player.

To score Connect 5, a player must have 5 of his tokens placed on 5 consecutive dots on the game board, without any obstacle.

Game Modes

Connect 5 can be played in 2 modes:

Quick Game

The game is over when one player scores Connect 5. Total scores are calculated and the winner is determined.

The player with the highest number of poits, wins the game.

Full Game

A game is composed by several rounds, depending on the number of players:

  • 2 players = 2 round
  • 3 players = 3 round
  • 4 players = 4 round
  • 5 players = 5 round

Each player, going clockwise, starts a round first. Each round terminates when one of the players scores Connect 5.

Each player score is calculated and is summed to the score of the following rounds.

The player who, at the end of the last round, has the higher number of points, wins the game.

How to Play

After having decided which player will play first, each player – going clockwise – places one token on a single dot (fig. 1) or on a circled dot (fig. 2).

FIG. 1 – token on a single dot. FIG. 2 – token on a circled dot.

In the following turns, each player will be able to execute one of the following moves:

  • Place a token on any dot (single or circled) on the game board, if it's free from other players' token.
  • Stack a token on top on another of his token, if the latter is on a circled dot.
  • Move any of his token from the dot it's placed to an adjacent dot.
  • Eat an opponent's token jumping over it, if the landing dot is free from anyone's token.
  • Unstack a double token into 2 separate single tokens, leaving one on the original dot and moving the other one on an adjacent dot, if free.
  • Eat multiple opponent's token if the landing dots are free.

It's not allowed to eat a token or score Connect 5 using again a line that has just been used, like in the following examples.

The examples show a sequence of moves along a curved line of dots: an attempt to eat or score along the same line again is marked NO, while a move that uses a different line is marked OK.

Exceptions

  • Double tokens can't be eaten by single tokens.
  • They can eat single tokens.
  • They can eat and be eaten by opponents' double tokens.
  • Double tokens can only move between adjacent circled dots on the game board.
  • A double token can eat another double token only if the landing dot is a free circled dot. A double token can eat a single token but if the landing dot is a single dot, it has to be split in 2 separate single tokens.
  • If a player token is placed between 2 circled dots where 2 tokens of another players are placed, the latter will be allowed, during his own turn, to eat the first player token with one of the 2 tokens he owns and therefore create a double token.
  • The previous manouver is not allowed if the first player's token is a double token.
  • On the contrary, the manouver is allowed if the starting token of the second player is a double token and the landing token is a single token.
  • In the above situation, the second player will be allowed to eat the first player token moving the upper token from the double token and stacking it on top of the landing single token, creating a new double token on the landing dot.

Moving Around on the Game Board

Tokens are only allowed to move from the dot they are originally placed upon to an adjacent one (single or circled).

It is only allowed to "turn" to a different directions when the token encounters a "T" connection, not when to lines cross each other.

  • To score Connect 5 a player has to place 5 tokens on 5 consecutive dots without obstacles. (Example marked OK.)
  • It is not possible to score Connect 5 if this is achieved changing direction where 2 lines cross without a dot. (Example marked NO.)

The Double Board Game

The Connect 5 game board has 2 sides, one for basic games, one for advanced games!

The side labeled as "B" is the Basic game board. It's suitable for new players who want to gradually explore the game mechanics. Nevertheless, the basic board offers a consistent challenge leve also to more experienced players.

The side labeled as "A" is the Advanced game board and offers more challenging game paths presenting a harder challenge for the real Connect 5 champions!

PLEASE NOTE: all game rules applies to both game boards.
