Catch tray, grid wall, 2 end supports, 24 green game chips, 24 orange game chips.

Goal of the Game

Be the first player to form a line of four game chips of your colour, horizontally, vertically or diagonally.

Assembly

  1. Take one of the two end supports, tilt it slightly forward and insert the upper pin into the groove on one side of the catch tray. Then turn the end support back until it clicks into place in the tray (see Fig. 1). Assemble the second side in the same way.
  2. Place the grid wall upright on top of the end supports (see Fig. 2).
  3. Put the game chips into the catch tray, and you're ready to play!

Two Great Game Variants!

Connect 4 "Flip"

  1. Both players choose a game chip colour. Then decide between you who goes first. When it is your turn, insert one of your game chips into one of the slots at the top edge of the grid wall. Cool, see how your chip slides down?

Note: the game chips can only be inserted into the grid wall in one direction (see Fig. 3).

  2. Now the next player can choose between two options:

    • simply drop in a game chip, or
    • turn the grid wall 180° and drop in a game chip.

Careful! If you decide to turn the grid wall, all game chips already dropped in will stay exactly where they were, against the law of gravity! See Fig. 4.

  3. Keep playing and choosing, each turn, one of the options just described, until one of you has formed a line of 4 game chips.

Won!

The first player to form a line of four of their game chips wins the game. The line may be horizontal, vertical or diagonal.

Spieltipps (Game Tips)

  • Remember to turn the grid wall early! Otherwise it may soon be impossible to drop in any game chips!
  • You may turn the grid wall more than once while you consider where to drop your next game chip.
  • Each of the seven columns holds 6 game chips. Never try to force a seventh into a column: it would fall out again as soon as the grid wall is turned 180° once more.

(Fig. 5 shows four in a row; Fig. 6 shows the score slots on an end support.)

Connect 4 – The Original

If you want to play "Connect 4" the conventional way, simply do without turning the grid wall!

Scoring

Each end support has a score scale with three numbered slots (see Fig. 6).

When a player has won a game, they insert one of their game chips into the score slot provided for this purpose. Move your game chips up one slot for every game you win!

Tournament

If you feel like it, you can even hold a "Connect 4" tournament!

The player who first wins 3 games wins the tournament!

Back Down to Earth!

After each game the game chips must be removed from the grid wall. To do this, press the pins at the bottom of the grid wall together (see Fig. 7). Then turn the grid wall and do the same again. Finally the game chips will fall into the catch tray.

Teardown

When you have no more time and can no longer keep playing, lift the grid wall off the end supports.

Then press the two lower pins and release the two end supports from the catch tray (see Fig. 8).
