Components

  • 36 wooden tokens (6 of each color)
  • 1 wooden Direction token (black)

Goal of the Game

Collect the most tokens of an Origami design.

The arrow points to the row or column you must choose from, and your selection not only determines your token but also controls your opponent's next move.

Setup

Mix up the tokens and place them in a random 6x6 grid. Leave some space between the tokens to make them easier to pick up later.

The youngest player starts. This player takes the Direction token and places it on any token in the grid.

Note: At the beginning, the arrowheads point towards the players. Make sure you sit facing each other.

Choose one of these options:

  1. The youngest player takes the token underneath the Direction token and places it in front of them. Then, it's their opponent's turn.
  2. The youngest player gives the token underneath the Direction token to their opponent and starts playing.

Take turns after this.

How to Play

You take turns. On your turn, move the Direction token within the row or column that the arrowheads are pointing to. Place it on any token there, even if you need to jump over other tokens or empty spaces. Take that token from the row or column and place it in front of you.

Rotate the Direction token 90 degrees and place it in the empty space left by the token. This means that the arrowheads on the Direction token change from horizontal to vertical or vice versa after each turn.

Example

  1. On her turn, Anna wants to collect the purple token at the top of this column (paper boat).
  2. She removes the purple token, places it in front of her and rotates the Direction token 90 degrees.

How to Group Your Collected Tokens

Collect each color in a separate stack. Place new tokens on their stack of the corresponding color.

During the game, you will have up to 6 stacks in front of you. You must keep your stacks lined up and never change their position. When creating a new stack, place it at either end (right or left) of the line of stacks already in front of you.

End of the Game

The game ends when one of you can no longer move the Direction token. Whoever has the highest stack of any color wins.

In case of a tie in height, the position of the stacks determines the winner, regardless of their color. The stack that is furthest to the left wins. Imagine a numbered position line from 1 to 6, starting on the left: The highest stack closest to the left decides the game. If there is a tie, look at the next highest stack and its position, and so on.

In case of a tie in both height and position, both players win.

Tie-Break Example

Anna's line and Max's line are shown on a numbered position line from 1 to 6.

Example: Anna's and Max's highest stacks have 5 tokens (red and pink stacks) and are both in position 2, so it's still a tie. Their second highest stacks each have 4 tokens (yellow and purple), but the positions differ. Anna wins, as her second highest stack (yellow) is in position 5, while Max's second highest stack (purple) is in position 6.
