Rules

The game plays with the same standard rules as Chess. The only difference is that at the start of each turn, you draw up to a hand of 4 cards from your deck, and may play 1 card before moving your piece.

Activating a Piece

When a card says to "Activate an X" piece, that means X is the piece that you will move this turn (as if you touched it while playing with touch move in tournament Chess).

Cards and Check

Cards do not allow you to directly capture an opponent's King. You can only end a turn by placing your opponent in Check even if a card allows a piece to move in an unexpected way.

For example, your opponent did not end their turn in Check, but you play the "Suzaku" card, which allows you to move a Knight up to 4 times. You CANNOT use this Knight to capture your opponent's King, but you CAN use it to put your opponent in Check, which could also be Checkmate.

Trap Cards

When a card says "Trap: Activate when..." that means it is a Trap card, and it is played Face Down in front of you. A trap can be activated any time its activation trigger is fulfilled. However, only one trap may be placed face down at a time. If you play a trap card while you already have a trap face down, the first trap card is revealed and discarded.

Card List

Partial transcription. The card faces below are the ones visible on the community print-and-play sheets. Each card is shown with its printed name and its printed rules text; flavour quotes printed on the cards are omitted.

Kaguya Sumeragi

Activate a Bishop. It can move through other pieces this turn but cannot make a capture this way. It cannot be captured until your next turn.

Rakshata Chavla

Activate a Bishop. Your opponent has 15 seconds to complete their next turn or else their turn is skipped.

Absolute Obedience

Activate your King. It does not move this turn, but can capture as if it was a Queen. Select a Piece your King can capture. If it is the King, place it in Check. Otherwise, capture it and replace it with a captured pawn.

Crumbling Foothold

Trap: Activate whenever a piece is moved onto the center two rows. Capture every non-King piece that is in the center two rows.

Gefjun Disturber

Trap: Activate when your opponent starts their turn in Check. They cannot play cards this turn.

Terrain Surge

Trap: Activate when your opponent attempts to move any piece. It may only move as if it was a King this turn.

Li XingKe

If you control less than 2 Knights and your opponent controls at least 1 Pawn, capture an opponent's Pawn and replace it with a captured Knight.

Tohdoh Kyoshiro

Trap: Activate when your opponent attempts to capture your Knight with any piece that is not a Queen or King. Both your Knight and your opponent's capturing piece are captured instead.

Rivalz Cardemonde

Activate a Pawn. Move any one piece you control up to 2 spaces in any direction into an empty space.

Sayoko Shinozaki

Move one Pawn you control to an empty space adjacent to an opponent's piece. You cannot Activate it this turn.

Shinichiro Tamaki

Activate a Pawn. Move it forward up to 4 spaces. If it collides with an opponent's non-King piece this way, capture both pieces.

Shirley Fenette

Sacrifice a Pawn. Move your King to its space, then add the card "Absolute Obedience" from your deck to your hand or draw 1 card.

Diethard Ried

Redeploy up to 3 of your captured Pawns on open spaces in your second rank.

Kaname Ohgi

Activate a Pawn, promote it to a Knight, Bishop, or Rook at the end of your turn.

Milly Ashford

Activate a Pawn. Promote it to a Bishop at the end of your turn.

Nagisa Chiba

Move one Pawn you control 1 space in any direction into an empty space.
