Components

  • 1 game board
  • 5 orange supports
  • 5 green supports
  • 1 detective notepad
  • 1 sheet with stickers
  • 1 die
  • 1 pre-cut sheet with:
    • 4 "detective" pawns
    • 4 hiding places
    • 1 pavilion
    • 1 fence with grass

Object

One of the animals in the neighbourhood has hidden one of the toys. It is up to you to find out which animal is hiding which toy. The answer is inside the pavilion. The player who solves the mystery first, and who arrives at the pavilion with the correct answers, wins the game.

Setup

Preparation

Detach all the pieces from the pre-cut sheet.

1. Building the Fence

Assemble the fence as shown in Figure 1.

2. Stickers

  • Stick the stickers showing the toys under the orange supports.
  • Stick the stickers showing the animals under the green supports.
  • Stick the square stickers on the die.

3. Pawns

  • Attach the 4 "detective" pawns to the orange supports without looking at the stickers under the supports.
  • Attach the 4 hiding places to the green supports without looking at the stickers under the supports.

4. The Pavilion and the Solutions

Attach the pavilion to the remaining orange and green supports. The stickers under these two supports show the answer to the mystery. Do not look at these stickers. Place the pavilion inside the fence. See Figure 2.

Figure 2 caption: "Place the pavilion here."

Setting Up the Game

  1. Each player takes a sheet from the detective notepad and a pencil. The elements of the detective notepad are the following:
ChildrenAnimalsHiding placesToys
Marc MoutardeDogLemonade standTeddy bear
Samantha ÉcarlateRabbitMailboxRoller skate
Pierre VioletFishTreehouseTruck
Gina OliveCatBirdcageBall
BirdDoll
  1. Place the 4 hiding places on the game board.
  2. Place each of the pawns on the starting point of the same colour. Choose the pawn you want to play with. If there are pawns left over, there is no need to remove them from the game, as they are all useful for the investigation.

The Mystery Begins

  1. Begin by secretly looking at the sticker under your pawn. Cross out the matching toy on your detective notepad. That toy may be eliminated from your investigation: it has not disappeared. Do not let the other players see your sticker or your notepad.

  2. Now you must move around the game board, visiting the different hiding places. Move your pawn after rolling the die. The youngest player begins the game, and play continues clockwise.

Gameplay

1. Rolling the Die

The die can show:

  • A number: Move your pawn forward as many spaces as the die shows.
  • Skateboard: You may move your pawn anywhere on the game board.
  • Magnifying glass (Loupe): Leave your pawn on this space, then take any pawn and look underneath it to find a clue.

2. Spaces

  • If your pawn stops on a space that is already occupied by another pawn, lift that pawn to find a clue.
  • If your pawn stops on a space with an arrow pointing to a hiding place, lift the hiding place to find a clue.

Remember: each time you discover a new clue underneath a pawn or a hiding place, cross out the matching drawing on your notepad. Also write on a separate sheet of paper which pawns you have already looked at and which hiding places you have already visited.

Solving the Mystery

Keep moving around the game board, looking at the clues under the pawns and the hiding places. You will have solved the mystery when only one animal and one toy remain uncrossed on your notepad.

As soon as you have found which animal is hiding which toy, go to the pavilion. When you arrive, reveal your suspicions to the other detectives. Then secretly look under the two supports of the pavilion.

  • If you are right, you win the game! Well done, the mystery is solved.
  • If you are wrong, you are eliminated! The mystery continues.

Another Mystery to Solve

To solve a new mystery, remove the supports from the pawns and the hiding places, shuffle them, and start again from the beginning.
