Components

  • 6 Chope cards (6 extra for replacement). Each has a Chope side and a Drive-off side.
  • 24 Table cards
  • 8 Mynah cards
  • 60 Food cards: Mains (on tray) and Sides (on napkins)
  • 6 My Favourite cards

Setup

  1. Give each player 1 Chope card in their colour.
  2. Shuffle the other cards into a deck (known as the Hawker Centre Deck) and place it face-down in the middle of the playing area. Leave room for a discard pile.
  3. Determine a starting player, preferably the player who has visited Singapore most recently. You are ready to begin!

Game Overview

Players take turns flipping cards from the Hawker Centre Deck to try to get as much food as preferred. In case of a table, the other players will try to chope (reserve) the seats in order to score their food.

Game Turn

Beginning from the starting player, each player takes their turn clockwise. On your turn, flip over cards from the Hawker Centre Deck face-up to the centre of the table (in equal reach of all).

A player may flip over as many cards as they want, and may stop at any point to claim the food cards that have been flipped open so far. If they do so, they claim all of the face-up Food cards to their scoring area. However, beware of busting (see Busting below)!

Busting

If there are ever two Food cards of the same type face-up on the table, they bust and the player has to discard ALL BUT ONE (of their choice) of the face-up Food cards to the discard pile.

Food Cards

Food cards are made up of Mains (on a tray) and Sides (on napkins). This difference affects the final scoring (see Final Scoring below).

Table Cards

When a player flips over a Table card, all other players may reserve the table by placing their Chope card (Chope side up; otherwise it doesn't count!) on the Table card and saying 'Chope!' The first player to do so must take that Table card into their scoring area.

If more than one player chopes the table at the same time, the table goes to the player whose Chope card covers most surface area of the Table card. If you can't tell this apart, discard the Table card.

In the rare case that no player wants to chope the table, the Table card is discarded into the discard pile.

Mynah Cards

When a player flips over a Mynah card, the last player to place their Chope card (Drive-off side up; otherwise it doesn't count!) on the Mynah card and say 'Siam!' will lose a card. They lose the type, either Table or Food, that they have LESS of (of their choose if equal). They place the card in the discard pile along with the Mynah card.

If the player has no cards, they take the Mynah card into their scoring area and lose a Table or Food card of their choice the next time they gain any.

End of Game

The game ends when the Hawker Centre Deck runs out of cards. The last player may only draw as many cards as are available in the deck, and may take the cards that were last drawn.

Scoring

  1. Each Table card can score you up to 2 Food cards:
    • Exactly 1 Main and optionally 1 Side. That means that you can't use a table if you only have sides!
    • All Food cards score 1 point each.
  2. Each Table card in your own colour gains you 1 additional point.
  3. All leftover (unmatched) Table cards score -1 point each.

The player with the most points wins! In the case of a tie, the player with the most Table cards wins. If the game is still tied, play again!

Favourite Food Variant

Upsize your Chope experience with these My Favourite cards!

  1. During the setup of the game, each player receives one of the 6 My Favourite cards face-down and looks at it in secret.
  2. At the end of the game, players earn 1 extra point for each Food card (even not matched with any Table) that shows the same food as their own My Favourite card.
