Game Preparation

Place all embassy tiles whose colors match those of the players taking part next to the game board. Return any unused tiles to the box – they will not be used.

Note: the German side of the same sheet says the embassy tiles in the players' colors are placed as a supply in the middle of the table ("als Vorrat in der Mitte bereit gelegt"). The English text is transcribed as printed.

Game Play

All rules from the base game are in effect, with the following addition: When a player places a house, he may, in addition, take one embassy from the supply and place it beneath the house. He does not need to play a card to place the tile! The embassy must be in a different color than the house. All players may place no more than two embassies over the course of the game.

Note: the German side says the embassy's color must be the color of another player ("die Farbe eines anderen Spielers"). This matches the English rule that the embassy must differ in color from the house it sits under.

Important

Embassies count as playing pieces. If a player places a house with an embassy, then he may not place an additional piece that turn. Embassies may not be placed under the first house placed in a region.

Final Scoring

After the houses, alliances and roads are scored, the embassies are scored as well. For each embassy, the owner of the house under which the tile is located scores 1 point for each house and emissary in the region that matches the embassy's color.

Variant Game with Fortifications

A house may only have either a fortification or an embassy beneath it. Fortifications are not worth anything during embassy scoring.
