50 Chicken Cards.
28 yellow chicken cards with black numbers from 0 to 11. The values written on these cards must always be added to the total.
22 red chicken cards from with red numbers from 2 to 11. The values written on these cards may be added to the total.
Goal of the Game
The goal is to get rid of all your cards first.
Game Preparation
Shuffle all the cards and distribute them evenly among the players. If there are any cards left, put them to one side.
Each player takes his deck of cards face down without looking at them.
= Fox Card
This card is equal to the last card played, (this fox card is the same colour and the same value as the previous card, the same action). If it is the first card played it is worth zero.
X2 Fox Card
This card doubles the total.
= 0 Fox Card
This card sets the current total to 0.
= 20 Fox Card
This card makes the total 20.
Playing the Game
The player to the left of the dealer starts.
Play continues clockwise. The starting player places the first two cards of their deck in the middle of the table and says the total of the two cards out loud. If he plays for example chicken cards with the numbers 3 and 8, he says "11". Then it's the next player's turn.
He places a single card on the stack in the centre of the table and adds the value of his cards to the sum as follows. Pool cards with black numbers must always be added. Pool cards with red numbers are added unless the sum exceeds 21, in which case they must be subtracted.
The fox cards: count according to the description on the card, (see above paragraph, "10 Fox Cards".)
Note (transcriber): the source refers to a "10 Fox Cards" paragraph that does not appear under that name in the document; the fox card descriptions are the ones listed under Game Preparation above.
Players continue to draw a card from the top of their deck and put it on the middle pile until a player is found who:
- Exceeds the sum of 21 – Shame!
- Backtrack – Chicken Out!
- Hit the total of 21 - Well done!
Too bad if you draw a chicken card with a black number or a fox card, "=" or "X2" and that makes you exceed the sum of 21, you take all the cards in the centre and put them under your own deck.
Chicken Out! If the sum is 11 or more and you fear that adding the value of your next card to the total more than drawing a fox card will make you go over 21, you can shout "Chicken Out!" In this case, instead of playing a card, take all the cards from the pile and place them under your deck.
You must then lay down two new cards to start a new stack.
Note: If the sum of the two cards is less than 11, you cannot say "Chicken Out!"
Cock-a-doodle Doo! If you put down a card and you reach exactly 21, collect the cards from the pile, they are out of the game.
You can then start a new pile by playing as many cards as you want, at least 2, until you are satisfied with the amount reached. Then the next player continues by laying down a card. If you exceed 21 by laying cards, too bad!, you take your cards back, and it's up to the next player to lay 2 cards.
Attention: Each time the game is interrupted by "Shame!", "Chicken Out!" or "Cock-a-doodle Doo !", the game must continue by placing two cards, even when the first card is a "=20" fox card. If the player who must lay the 2 cards has only one card left in his hand, he lays it down and wins the round.
End of the Game and Calculation of Points
When a player has played all the cards in his hand, he wins the round. The remaining players play again until the stack in progress is taken by one of them or knocked out. The points are then counted and divided among the remaining players, each chicken card in your hand is worth 1 point, and each fox card 10 points.
If you play several rounds, note the points at the end of each round, the one who accumulates the least points points is the winner.
