Components
- 26 Job (Métiers) cards (double-sided)
- 100 Character (Personnage) cards
- 2 Qualification tokens (one "Qualified" token, one "Non-Qualified" token)
- 3 Life (Vie) tokens
- 1 die (Dé)
Setup
- Place the Character (Personnage) cards face down on the table, accessible to all, and reserve a space for the discard pile.
- Place the 3 Life (Vie) tokens on the table, heart side up (the "full heart" side visible).
- Shuffle the Job (Métiers) cards and take 7 of them to form a pile in the center of the table. Return the remaining Job cards to the box.
- Place the Qualification tokens on both sides of the Job card pile.
- The number of Character cards each player draws depends on the number of players:
- 3-4 players: draw 7 Character cards (special rules for 3 players, see page 8)
- 5-6 players: draw 5 Character cards
- 7-8 players: draw 4 Character cards
- 9-10 players: draw 3 Character cards
- Empty the game box and place the die in it. Choose the player with the most beautiful hair and give this box to them.
Turn Sequence
Each turn proceeds as follows:
A. The player with the game box shakes the box containing the die and reveals the die to the other players without looking at the result.
B. All players who have seen the die play 1 Character card from their hand, in no particular order. This card is played next to a Qualification token to give a clue about the job matching the die. The clue is given according to one's feeling.
- Play the card next to the "Qualified" token (✓) if the Character seems qualified to do the job.
- Play the card next to the "Non-Qualified" token (✗) if the Character seems non-qualified to do the job.
Example: The players try to get "Scientifique" (Scientist) guessed. Martin and Einstein are played next to the Qualified token. Marvin and Zazelle are played next to the Non-Qualified token.
C. Each player may then add 1 card from their hand, face down, to cover elements on a card. This allows the focus to be placed on part of the image. This step is optional.
Example: Covering Martin's Bible with a card removes the religious association of the Character, allowing other associations.
D. The player who rolled the die then tries to guess the job matching the played cards.
Example: An intellectual and Einstein are qualified for this job. The dishevelled guy and the pretty blonde are non-qualified... Is it a rapper? No. An exterminator? I don't think so. A scientist? Oh! That fits well, and better than the 3 other choices: "I believe this is the job of scientist!"
- If the answer is wrong, turn the Job card over and place it under your pile of Job cards to guess. You will have to try this card again later. The team loses 1 Life (Vie). Turn a Life token over to mark your new total.
- If the answer is right, remove the Job card from the game and play a new turn.
E. Discard the played cards and draw new Character cards to refill your hands to the initial number (see step 5 of Setup). Pass the game box to the next player on the left.
End of the Game
If you lose all your lives, you lose the game.
If you guess 7 Job cards with at least 1 Life remaining, congratulations! Call your mother and tell her you won at Chasseur de tête!
Special Rules for 3 Players
Each player plays 2 Character cards instead of only one. You may play up to 2 cards from your hand to hide elements on the Characters at step C.
Variant: Marathon
Start the game with all Job cards and no Life (Vie). Separate the guessed and non-guessed Job cards into 2 piles. Try to guess as many as possible!
Translator's note: the source says "aucune Vie" (no Vie) for the marathon start. The rulebook does not say more; this is transcribed as printed.
Clarifications
- There is no set order for playing Character cards. Have fun, chaos is the rule.
- It can happen that all Character cards are played next to a single Qualification token. There is no limit.
- You may only use one card to hide elements at step C.
- At step C you may hide elements on another player's Character card.
- If there are not enough Character cards to refill your hand, shuffle the discard pile to form a new draw pile.
