The Jeweler

The Jeweler is a building tile. Its printed icons are:

  • Top left: one grey cube and one blue cube (the building's cost).
  • Top right: a shield showing 6 (the building's prestige point value).
  • Bottom left: a shield showing 5, with one gold cube on its left and an arrow pointing from the gold cube to the shield.
  • Bottom right: a shield showing 9, with two gold cubes stacked on its left and an arrow pointing from the gold cubes to the shield.

Trade rule

The Jeweler can be used to trade gold for prestige points at these ratios (gold : points):

  • 1 gold cube for 5 prestige points.
  • 2 gold cubes for 9 prestige points.

Back of the tile

The back carries the name of the tile in three languages (Joaillier / Jeweler / Juwelier) in gold lettering on a dark green background. It has no rules text. (The Essen 2005 giveaway version has a plain red shield with a gold "C" on its back instead; the front is the same.)

Notes on this transcription

  • Source type: this is not a text rulebook. The tile's rule is printed only as icons, so the wording above is a reading of those icons. This is a pictorial transcription, not a copy of printed text.
  • Inferred readings: the tile does not name the resources or the points. "Grey cube" and "blue cube" are described by colour only. The cost is read as the top-left position, and the 6-point shield as the building's own value, from the layout Caylus uses for its buildings. The base game rulebook calls scoring "prestige points", so the points are written that way; the tile itself shows only shields.
  • Timing not printed: neither the tile nor the BGG description states when the trade may be made. Nothing about timing has been added here; the base game rules govern it.
  • Gold: the yellow cubes are read as gold, which matches the BGG description ("trade gold for points").
