Overview

CATtitude! is a simulation of the real-life struggle between cats and the human of the house. While one is desperately trying to keep things in order, the others cause as much trouble as they can!

  • Each player is a cat in the house. Collect cards and use them to cause chaos throughout the house by stealing, destroying, and knocking items over. Be careful! The human is not going to be happy if he catches you.
  • Players also take turns controlling the human, who frantically runs around the house trying to clean up after the cats and catch them in their mischievous acts.

Winning the Game

Earn PAW points by causing trouble as cats and cleaning up as the human. The first player to earn 13 or more PAW points at the end of their cat's turn, WINS!

Setup

  1. Place each item token, undisturbed (text facing up), in the room of the same color.

Item tokens are objects your cat can disturb. The object is undisturbed when the text side is up.

Flip the token over when a cat successfully disturbs it!

  2. Mix up all of the room tokens and place them in a stack (colored side facing down).

Room Tokens indicate a room destination to deliver an item to.

  3. Each player selects a cat story board, randomly selects a room token, and places their associated cat pawn in that room. Mix the room tokens back in with the others.

  4. The player who most recently pet a cat goes first, then play proceeds in clockwise order.

  5. Place the human pawn in the hallway and give the human token to the player to the right of the first player.

  6. Shuffle all the cards and place them face down next to the game board. These cards make up the draw pile.

  7. Draw three cards from the top of the draw pile and place them in a face up stack beside it. These cards begin the discard pile.

  8. Deal each player 4 cards from the draw pile to make up their starting hand.

Let's Get Started

Each round consists of each player taking a turn as a cat, and one player's turn as the human. The player with the human token takes the human's turn before their cat's turn.

The Cat's Turn

On your turn as a cat, you perform four actions in order. These actions are listed on the left-hand side of your cat's story board if you need a quick reference during the game.

  1. Draw - Draw three cards from the top of the draw or discard piles' in any combination and place them in your hand. You may, for example, draw two cards from the draw pile, and one card from the discard pile. You may look at each card before drawing the next. If there are no cards in the draw pile, shuffle the discard pile to make a new one, and discard the top three cards.

  2. Move - You may move your cat pawn to any room, or you may stay put.

  3. Play Cards - Once you have ended your move, you may play any number of Trouble! cards from your hand, performing the actions indicated on them. After your card(s) have been played, place them face up in front of you. See Trouble! card explanations for more details.

  4. Discard - Cats are fickle and easily distracted, so you must choose any two cards from your hand and discard them face up on top of the discard pile.

Trouble Cards

There are four types of Trouble! cards: Steal, Knock-Over, Destroy, and Cuddle. Each type requires that your cat completes a different task to cause trouble and earn PAW points. When causing trouble, your cat may disturb items, so be careful.

General rules for all Trouble! cards:

  • Trouble! cards may only be played when your cat is in the same room as the item on the card.
  • Trouble! cards may not be played on an item that is already disturbed unless stated otherwise.
  • Trouble! cards that have been played remain in front of you until your cat completes the action or is caught!

Steal

To complete this type of Trouble! your cat must steal an item from one room and deliver it to another without getting caught by the human.

  1. To steal an item, play a Steal card while your cat is in a room with its matching item. Turn that item token over to its disturbed side (icon facing up) and place your cat pawn on top of it. Your cat is now carrying that item and whenever you move your cat pawn to another room (via a move action or an Evade! card), that item moves with it. Remember, while carrying an item, the human will try to catch you!

  2. Take a room token at random and place it, colored side up, on top of your Steal card. This indicates the room where you need to deliver the item. If you draw a room token with the same color as the current room, place the token at the bottom of the room token stack and draw a new token.

  3. When your cat enters the destination room, you have successfully delivered the item and you gain 3 PAW points!

  4. Flip the item token to the undisturbed side in the new room where it was delivered. This indicates that it can be stolen again or disturbed.

  5. Place the associated room token at the bottom of the room token stack.

  6. Place the Steal card in the discard pile.

If your cat picks up an item while it is already carrying one, the first Item token is placed in the current room with the undisturbed side up, the associated Trouble! card is moved to the discard pile, and the associated room token is placed at the bottom of the room token stack.

Knock-Over

To complete this type of Trouble! you must simply knock over an item. But be careful, it's noisy and will attract the human immediately to the room!

  1. To knock-over an item, you must play two identical Knock-Over cards while in a room with their matching item token. Turn that item token to its disturbed side.

  2. Gain 4 PAW points!

  3. Move the human pawn to the room with the knocked-over item.

  4. Follow the directions for Getting Caught.

  5. Place both Knock-Over cards in the discard pile.

You immediately receive 4 PAW points when you knock over an item. This means you will still come out ahead even if the human catches you!

Destroy

To complete this type of Trouble! your cat must spend several turns damaging an item without moving or getting caught!

  1. To begin destroying an item, play a Destroy card while your cat is in a room with its matching undisturbed item token.

  2. Turn that item token to its disturbed side and place your cat pawn on top of it. You are now in the process of destroying that item.

  3. On any following turn, you (and only you) may play a second matching Destroy card on the disturbed item to complete destroying it.

  4. That item is now destroyed. Gain 5 PAW points!

  5. Place your cat pawn next to the item token (instead of on top of it.)

  6. Place both Destroy cards in the discard pile.

If you leave the room or are caught before playing the second Destroy card, your attempt to destroy the item is foiled. The Destroy card is moved to the discard pile, and the item token is turned back to its undisturbed side.

Cuddle

Humans love cuddles! Unlike other Trouble! cards, this card does not interact with an item. Instead it moves the human to a room to cuddle with a cat.

  1. To cuddle, play a Cuddle card, then move the human to any room with a cat in it.

  2. If there are no disturbed or stolen items in that room, you gain 1 PAW point for each cat in that room!

  3. Place the Cuddle card in the discard pile.

Be careful! Cunning players may use the Cuddle card to get other players in trouble instead of trying to gain PAW points for themselves.

Nap

Sometimes, you just need a nap!

If you do not play any Trouble! cards on your turn, you may instead choose to take a Nap. Do not move your cat pawn, and gain 1 PAW point! At the end of that turn, you do not discard any cards.

You may not Nap if you have 12 or more PAW points.

The Human's Turn

If you have the human token, you must take the human's turn before your cat's. As the human, your goal is to catch cats that are causing trouble and clean up items that have been disturbed or stolen. The human will perform four actions on their turn. Some actions, like catching or cleaning up, may occur out of order, may occur more than once, and can even occur on other players' turns.

  1. Move - You may move the human pawn to any room or they may stay in their current room.

  2. Catch - If there is a disturbed or stolen item and at least one cat in the room you have moved to, you try to catch all cats in that room. See Getting Caught explanation for more details.

  3. Clean Up - If the human is in the same room as a disturbed item (even if it isn't the human's turn), they clean the item(s) up. This means the item(s) are returned to their starting room(s) undisturbed. The player with the human token gains 1 PAW point for each item that is cleaned up on their turn.

  4. Pass the Token - At the end of the human's turn, pass the human token to the player on your right.

Getting Caught

If at any time (including on other players' cat turns) the human is in the same room as a disturbed or stolen item and at least one cat, the human must immediately attempt to catch any cats in that room, even if they were not responsible for disturbing or stealing the item in the first place!

  1. Starting with the player who has the human token and continuing clockwise, each player has an opportunity to play an Evade! card. You may play an Evade! card even if you are not in the room where the human is trying to catch a cat.

  2. Any cats unlucky enough to still be in the room with the human and a disturbed or stolen item are caught.

  3. Caught cats must discard a card from their hand and move all Trouble! cards that are in front of them to the discard pile.

Run, Sneak, and Hide

Evade! cards may only be played when the Human tries to catch you or another cat. Starting with the player who has the human token and continuing clockwise, each player may play an Evade! card, even if their cat is not in the same room as the human.

  • Run - Place this card in the Discard pile to quickly scamper to any other non-adjacent room.

  • Sneak - Place this card in the Discard pile to sneak through a wall to an adjacent room.

  • Hide - Place this card in front of you to Hide. Your cat cannot be caught by the human while this card is in front of you. Place your cat pawn on its side to show it is hiding. While this card is in play, you cannot move or play other cards. You may choose to move this card to the discard pile at any time. Any items under your cat are hidden as well and cannot be seen or cleaned up by the human.

Be careful! If you discard this card while you are in a room with the human and a disturbed item, they will immediately try to catch you!
