Components
This scenario is not a standalone game. You also need the cards and pieces of the CATAN base game. The scenario uses the New England map board.
Players: 3-6. Age: 10+. Playing time: 45-75 minutes (as printed on the product page).
Components needed from the base game: the cards and pieces of CATAN.
Also needed: victory point chits from the CATAN – Seafarers expansion or, as a stand-in, coins.
Overview
Instead of building the familiar island, lay out the New England map. Only a few exceptions apply to the base game rules:
- Settlements may only be founded on the round location fields.
- If a player builds a road to a location field, the next road behind that location field may only be built once that player has founded a settlement on the location field.
- To gain a harbour bonus, it is enough to build a road on a red road-building field.
Victory Point Chits
At the start of the game, place either victory point chits from the CATAN – Seafarers expansion or, as a stand-in, coins on each intersection that shows a victory point symbol.
The first player to reach such an intersection with a road receives the chit and thereby gains one additional victory point.
Player Counts
- 3 or 4 players: Play as described above.
- 2 players: Play with the CATAN for Two variant.
- 5 or 6 players: Play as described above, except that the victory point fields marked with chits or coins count as normal location fields. Settlements may be built on them and upgraded to cities.
