Overview
This scenario is not a standalone game. You also need the cards and game pieces of the base game.
Setup is quick. Instead of building the usual island, simply lay out the map of India. You need the cards and game pieces of the base game.
Play follows the usual rules of CATAN – The Game. There are only a few exceptions, set out below.
Exceptions to the Base Rules
- Settlements may only be founded on the round town fields.
- Whoever builds a road to a town field may build the next road behind that town field only after having founded a settlement on that town field.
- To enjoy a harbor advantage, it is enough to build a road on a red road-building field.
Victory Point Intersections
- At the beginning of the game, place either victory point chits from the Seafarers expansion or, as a stand-in, coins on the intersections that show a victory point symbol.
- The first player to reach such an intersection with a road receives the chit or coin and thereby gains one additional victory point.
Rickshaw Tokens
- A player who also builds a road along the route taken by the publisher's team receives a rickshaw token.
- Every 2 rickshaw tokens count as one victory point.
These few rule changes give the scenario its own character.
Number of Players
- The Rickshaw Run Edition can be played by three or four players, or by two players using the CATAN for Two variant from the Traders & Barbarians expansion.
- As with most of the other regional editions, the Rickshaw Run Edition is also suitable for five and six players. In that case, the victory point spaces marked with chits or coins in the three- or four-player game count as normal town fields, on which settlements may be built and upgraded to cities.
