Catan Portugal for 3-4 Players

To play Catan Portugal you need the components and cards of the Catan base game. You will also need additional Victory Point markers (you may use the markers from the Navigators® expansion, coins, or anything else that serves the purpose). The normal Catan rules apply to this scenario, with the following exceptions:

  1. Building villages: villages may only be built on the settlement locations marked on the map (with name [icon not legible]).
  2. Building roads: roads may only be built on the spaces marked with rectangular boxes ([tan] or [red]). If a player builds a road adjacent to a settlement space, that player may only build another road from that settlement after having built a village on that space.
  3. Trading at 3:1: a player who builds a road on a red path marked as 3:1 may trade three resource cards of the same kind for one card of any other resource of their choice.
  4. Trading at 2:1: a player who builds a road on a red path marked as 2:1 may trade two resource cards of the same kind for one card of any other resource of their choice.
  5. Robber: at the start of the game, the Robber figure is placed off the map. It enters play only after the first roll of 7 on the dice.
  6. Crossroads with Victory Points [icon]: during setup, place a Victory Point marker on each crossroads of the board marked with the Victory Point symbol. The first player to build a road that reaches a Victory Point marker takes the marker and removes it from the board. Each marker is worth 1 Victory Point toward winning the game.
  7. Victory and end of game: the player who, on their turn, reaches 13 points in a game with 3 participants, or 12 points in a game with 4 participants, is the winner.

Catan Portugal for 5-6 Players

In addition to the rules above, the normal rules of the Catan 5-6 player expansion apply. The following also applies:

  1. No Victory Point markers are needed. All locations marked on the board (the settlements and those with the Victory Point symbol) are eligible for building villages and, later, cities. Even during the initial village-placement phase, a player may occupy any location indicated on the board.
  2. Victory and end of game: the player who, on their turn, reaches 15 points in a game with 5 participants, or 12 points in a game with 6 participants, is the winner. [Numerals low confidence: flagged because the photographed panel is blurred at these figures.]
