Catacomb Lord: Stromm
Stromm is a Catacomb Lord in two variations. Each variation has a Setup card and a Rules card. The Portrait card, which is shared, shows the name Stromm and the subtitle The Goblin Mage.
The base rulebook describes how a Catacomb Lord is set up and how its Rules card is played: see "Catacomb Lord's Lair" in the Catacombs (Third Edition) base rulebook. The Setup card and Rules card for each variation are given below.
Stromm (I)
Setup card
- Starting health: 6 (printed in a red blood drop, top right).
- Minions:
- blue-faced token, x4
- orange-rimmed token with a purple-haired figure, x2
- cube-shaped piece (green-yellow), x1
- Mercenary monster: each Mercenary Monster icon ("?") is replaced by one green-rimmed token with a dark figure.
Rules card
The Rules card shows three shot sequences, separated by black horizontal bars. Only one may be performed by the Overseer per round of the Battle Phase (see the base rulebook, "Catacomb Lord's Lair").
- Sequence 1: Rush shot, then Melee shot (fist), then a keyhole-and-arrow icon inside a dashed circle (not identified; see the notes below).
- Sequence 2: Poison melee shot (green fist with a small Poison card), then a Goblin Mage portrait (summon).
- Sequence 3: Corrosion melee shot (brown fist), then a Goblin Mage portrait (summon).
Stromm (II)
Setup card
- Starting health: 10 (printed in a red blood drop, top right).
- Minions:
- brown-rimmed token, x2
- green-rimmed token with a pink-and-red figure, x2
- grey-rimmed token with a white figure, x1
- green-rimmed token with a dark figure, x1
- Mercenary monster: each Mercenary Monster icon ("?") is replaced by the token shown on the Setup card. The card shows a brown-rimmed token, a slash, and a green-rimmed token. The slash is not explained in the photo; see the notes below.
Rules card
The Rules card shows several shot sequences, separated by black horizontal bars and by vertical dividers. Only one may be performed by the Overseer per round of the Battle Phase.
- Sequence 1 (top of card): Bite shot (teeth icon with a white starburst mark), then Rush shot, then an Or divider, then a purple hook icon (not identified; purple matches the transform colour in the base rulebook).
- Sequence 2 (below the first black bar): Rush shot, then yellow-fist Chain melee shot, then orange flame Fireball (with a white starburst mark), then the dotted group below.
- The dotted group holds two rows of alternatives:
- Row a: Fireball (yellow flame on orange), Or, Target (orange crosshair), Or, blue circle with a yellow blob (not identified).
- Row b: Goblin Mage portrait (summon), Or, green token with a dark figure.
- After the dotted group: then a Rush shot, then an Or divider, then the purple hook icon (not identified).
- The dotted group holds two rows of alternatives:
Room card: Stromm's Lair
- Room number: 2 (printed in the top-right corner).
- The card's quadrant icons are shown in the battle-room style. Top-left quadrant: three Mercenary Monster icons ("?"). Bottom-left quadrant: three Goblin Mage monster pieces. Top-right quadrant: one blue-faced monster piece (not identified). Bottom-right quadrant: no pieces shown.
- Mercenary Monster icons in the top-left quadrant are replaced by the Mercenary monster on the Catacomb Lord's Setup card, as in the base rulebook's "Mercenary Monster icons" rule.
Monster card: Goblin Mage
- Name: Goblin Mage. Banner at the foot of the card reads "MONSTER".
- Reward: four gold coins (four coin icons down the right side).
- Top right: the numeral 1 beside a small dark dotted icon. See the notes below on what this value is.
- Shot sequence (on the scroll at the bottom of the card): a blue icon, then Or, then a bite shot (teeth icon), then a Rush shot.
Notes on the source and icons
- Source. This is a community photo of the printed components, not a scan of the rulebook. The printed rules insert and the cover's lower text are not legible. The Stromm (I) Rules card hides the lower part of the cover panel.
- Icon reading. The base rulebook does not print glyphs. Shot icons were matched to the base rulebook's shot descriptions: rush (three chevrons, 0 damage), melee (fist, 1 damage), bite (teeth, 2 damage), and the Ranged shots (Fireball, Target and so on). Colours were matched to the base rulebook's shot-modifier colours: green (poison), brown (corrosion), yellow (chain), purple (transform), blue (stun), orange (fireball family), red (critical). A colour match alone is not proof of identity; each reading below is a judgment call.
- Then and Or. A ">" between icons is read as the Then connector, as the base rulebook describes. A vertical divider between icons is read as an Or connector, which the base rulebook describes but does not print. The meaning of a slash on the Stromm (II) Setup card is not established.
- Summon. A Goblin Mage portrait that follows a ">" is read as a summon shot, because the base rulebook defines a summon shot as bringing in the character shown in the shot sequence. The photo does not print this word.
- Not identified. The keyhole-and-arrow icon in Stromm (I) Sequence 1, the purple hook icons in Stromm (II) and the Goblin Mage monster card, the blue icons on the Goblin Mage card and in Stromm (II) Sequence 2 (row a), and the blue-faced monster piece on Stromm's Lair are not identified. They are transcribed as described and not guessed.
- Starburst marks. White starburst marks on some icons (bite, fireball) are not identified.
- Monster value. The numeral 1 on the Goblin Mage card is transcribed as printed. The base rulebook puts health on a blood drop and family and level on the Monster Metre. Neither is clearly shown beside this value, so its meaning is not confirmed from this photo.
