Gelatinous Cube
Monster card (front). Printed title: "Gelatinous Cube", on a parchment banner at the top. The card art shows a large green slime creature filled with bones and debris, set against a dark cave. The card's type banner at the bottom reads "MONSTER".
Card Contents
The card prints the following, read top to bottom and left to right:
- Title. "Gelatinous Cube".
- Red dotted marker with the number 1, in the top right corner.
- Four yellow discs, stacked in a column down the right edge.
- Element strip, down the left edge, on a light blue panel with a gold border. It shows three icons, top to bottom:
- a black circle with a white stylised shape inside;
- a blue snowflake in a blue circle (ice);
- a red flame in a red circle (fire).
- Banner icon, in the centre of the parchment banner: a black circle with a white stomach outline (devour).
- Type banner, bottom left: "MONSTER".
The card has no printed rules text and no printed shot sequence. The monster's shot sequence is defined in the base rulebook (see below).
Notes on the icons
- Monster behaviour. The Gelatinous Cube's shot sequence is not printed on this card. It is defined by the base rulebook's "The Gelatinous Cube Monster" section, which gives a different shot sequence for each round of the Battle Phase. The Overseer performs that sequence exactly as the base rulebook describes.
- Devour icon. The stomach icon in the banner is read as the devour shot. The base rulebook's "Devour Shot" section defines it: a hit does one point of damage, and a surviving character is removed from the playmat and placed on the Devoured! card. The base Gelatinous Cube sequence includes a devour round. This reading is a judgment call, because the base rulebook does not print the glyph.
- Element strip. The ice (snowflake) and fire (flame) icons correspond to the base rulebook's ice shot and fire-based rules. The base rulebook's "Monster Vulnerabilities" section says Infernal monsters are vulnerable to the ice shot and Undead monsters are vulnerable to fire. The base rulebook does not state which box on a monster card these three icons belong to, so the function of the strip is not confirmed by the rules text. The black glyph has no matching icon in the base rulebook and is recorded here as printed, unidentified.
- Red dotted marker and yellow discs. The base rulebook describes the Monster card's health track and Monster Metre but does not print the layout of these markers on a card. The discs are consistent with the base game's level 4 Gelatinous Cube, which has four health points. The meaning of the number 1 in the red dotted marker is not stated in the base rulebook and is not transcribed as a rule.
- Level. The base rulebook lists the Gelatinous Cube as a level 4 monster. This card does not print its level in words. The catalogue entry for this promo described it as a level 1 stat block; the card scan does not confirm that, and this rulebook does not repeat it.
Scan note: the card scan was read at 3024x4032, the full-size BGG image. Only the printed title, banner and icons are transcribed. The printed copyright line is omitted as attribution.
