Components

  • 30 map-chips (10 each in purple, light blue, orange). The map-chips are available from cundco.de (accessories).
  • We recommend playing with 115–125 tiles (e.g. from the BigBox: Base game (72) + 1st expansion (18) + Mini 4 to 7 (30) = 120 tiles).

Setup

Use 2 of the 3 possible starting slots of choice.

Mix the map-chips and place 2 of them face down on each marked space (the "space for 2 map-chips").

Gameplay

1. Place a Land tile

Collect chips

If you place your tile next to a pre-printed city, immediately take the map-chips lying there. It doesn't matter whether you place a meeple or not.

You get points immediately according to the numbers on the map-chips. Afterwards, you put the chips in your personal supply.

Example: You place your tile next to Oslo. You get 2 map-chips that are worth 3 points.

Waves

Fields with wavy lines can be seen on the map. You can't place a landscape tile on these spaces.

Discover Nordic highlights

You can't place a land tile onto a highlight. But you can place any tile next to it.

Like at a border square, all areas are closed at the side of the highlight.

When a highlight is discovered at one side, you can't automatically place tiles at the other sides (unlike a printed city).

2. Place a Meeple

After you placed your tile, you may place a meeple on it according to the usual rules.

3. Scoring points

If you are scoring a road, you can upgrade it, by using your map-chips. For every color you use, you get 1 additional point per tile. You can use 1 chip per color per scoring.

Afterwards, the used chips are removed from the game.

Every highlight is bordered with one of the 3 map-chip colors. Because of that, you will get 2 instead of 1 point for each tile of a road to a highlight.

If you use map-chips with other colors, you get 1 more point per color for each road tile.

The colors which border the highlight can be used several times.

The ferry roads are counted, independent from their length, as 1 road tile and can be improved by map-chips as usual.

Example: 1) You close the road to Santa Claus Village. 2) You use a blue and a purple chip, to have all 3 colors (the village is bordered by yellow, so you don't need a yellow chip). Because you have 3 different colors, each road tile is now worth 4 points for you. You get 12 points total for this road. Since Blue is also on this road, but didn't use any chips, Blue only gets 2 points per tile, so 6 points total.

End of the game and final scoring

At the end of the game, you can't upgrade any of your roads, neither with chips nor by the highlights.
