Components

  • 1 game board (Spielplan)
  • 1 large lounging lawn (Liegewiese), double-sided
  • 9 leaves (Blätter)
  • 36 animal tiles (Tierplättchen)

Setup

  1. Place the game board in the middle of the table.
  2. Place the 9 leaves on the game board. They are numbered 1-9 on their reverse. Place the leaves leaf-side up on the matching numbers above the river, so that the river is completely covered.
  3. Choose a difficulty level and take the corresponding animal tiles. There are 3 difficulty levels, each with a different number of animal tiles. You can tell which tiles you need by the colour of the towels on the back of the tiles. Shuffle the chosen tiles and form a face-down stack next to the game board. Return all unneeded tiles to the box.
    • Easy: the flamingo, the leopard, the crocodile, the toucan, the tapir and the parrot.
    • Medium: the easy animals, plus the frog and the otter.
    • Hard: the medium animals, plus the monkey.
  4. Place the lounging lawn next to the game board, with the side matching your chosen difficulty level facing up.

Goal of the Game

Together, you help the capybara lifeguard keep the river flowing. Make sure nobody sneaks in a second turn. Use your memory to uncover duplicate animals under the leaves. Together you can find all the animals sought and win!

Gameplay (Cooperative)

  1. You take turns in clockwise order. Whoever was swimming last begins.

  2. On your turn, you turn over the top tile of the draw stack and place it on the space with the white arrow on the game board. Then slowly push it in until it has completely disappeared under the bridge.

The question: Have you already pushed this animal into the river, and is it hidden under one of the leaves? You think so? Decide together under which leaf you want to look. The player whose turn it is lifts the leaf. Then you look together at what is underneath.

    • If you were right and the animal sought is under the revealed leaf, carefully take the tile out. Place the removed animal on the matching space of the lounging lawn. If a tile is already lying on that space, simply place the new tile on top of it.
    • If you were wrong and uncovered a different animal than the one sought, you must still carefully remove the animal from the river. However, you now place it face-down (towel side up) on one of the four whistle spaces below the river on the game board.

WARNING! If you are not sure, or know that the animal sought is not yet in the river, you must not lift any leaf.

  3. If you lifted a leaf, cover the river with it again.

  4. If, by pushing the tile in, an animal reappears behind the 9th leaf at the other end of the game board, you must place it face-down on one of the four whistle spaces below the river.

Tip! While the tile is being pushed, everyone may look closely at the game board. Perhaps you will recognise an animal when it passes the slits between the leaves? These slits grow larger towards the end and help you recognise the animals in the river. So push the animal very carefully and slowly into the river, so that everyone has more time to observe the tiles closely.

End of the Game

If you have covered all animal spaces on the lounging lawn with at least one matching animal, the game ends and you have won together.

You lose together if, during the game, you must place an animal on one of the four whistle spaces below the river and no free space remains.

You also lose if there is no tile left in the draw stack and not all animal spaces on the lounging lawn are covered by a matching animal.

Competitive Variant

Do you want to play against each other?

  1. Set up the river with its leaves as usual.
  2. Decide whether you want to play an easy, medium or hard game. Shuffle the corresponding animal tiles and place them as a face-down stack. You do not need the lounging lawn. Return it to the box.
  3. Push the top animal tile face-up into the river, so that one animal is already in the river before the game begins.

Gameplay (Competitive)

  1. You take turns in clockwise order. The youngest player among you begins.

  2. On your turn, turn over the top tile of the draw stack and push it into the river. If an animal tile is pushed out at the other end of the river, beyond the 9th leaf, remove it from the game and return it to the box.

  3. Then try to find the same animal again under one of the leaves.

    • If you succeed, take the tile out of the river and place it in front of you.
    • If you were wrong, the wrong tile remains in the river. You and the other players now know which animal is lying there. Always lift leaves so that all other players can see which animal lies beneath.

WARNING! If you are not sure, or know that the animal sought is not yet in the river, you must not lift any leaf.

  4. Cover the river with the leaves again.

  5. Play continues until all animal tiles of the draw stack have been pushed into the river.

  6. The winner is the player who has the most animal tiles in front of them at the end. In the event of a tie, you share the victory.

  • The next child clockwise then takes their turn.
