Contents

  • 1 treasure island (= box base with 2 partition walls + 1 game board)
  • 1 pirate ship (hull and cardboard sail)
  • 1 fabric bag
  • 42 gold coins
  • 8 black coins
  • 40 treasure chest cards (35 filled chests and 5 empty chests)
  • 13 parrot cards

Before the First Game

Place the empty box base in the center of the table. Take the two partition walls, put them together as pictured, and place the resulting interlocking cross in the box base.

Tip: At the end of the game, you can leave the interlocking cross in the box base. Simply distribute all the game material in the compartments and then place the game board and instructions on top.

Assemble the pirate ship by sticking the cardboard sail in the ship's hull.

Carefully separate the four thin cardboard pieces from the game board to create the coin slots. Please discard the four pieces.

Preparation

Assemble the treasure island. Place the game board with the island side up on the interlocking cross in the box base. Each player decides on a colored wooden box on the treasure island.

Shuffle the treasure chest cards and place the deck face down (i.e. the closed chest faces up) next to the treasure island.

Shuffle the parrot cards and place them with the parrot side up next to the treasure chest cards.

Place all of the coins inside the fabric bag and briefly mix the coins.

Choose the youngest player as the starting player for the first round. This player takes the pirate ship and the bag with the coins and places both of them in front of him/herself.

How to Play

The number of players determines the number of rounds of the game. The starting player begins the first round with their move.

Note: All players will have several turns before a round ends.

A move consists of:

  1. Draw coins from the bag
  2. Evaluate coins and pass on the bag

1. Draw Coins from the Bag

When it's your turn, you reach with one hand into the bag and pull out all at once as many coins as you want. Note: In doing so, you must not of course look into the bag!

2. Evaluate Coins and Pass on the Bag

Which coins did you pull out of the bag?

  • Only gold coins? Fantastic! You may stick all of the coins in the slot of your wooden box!
  • Black coins as well? Too bad. You have nabbed cursed pirate gold! Place one black coin on one of the discard fields in the center of the island. Unfortunately, you must place all of the rest of the coins back in the bag.

Important: If you have drawn more than one black coin from the bag, only one of them is placed on the island. All of the other black coins are placed back in the bag together with the gold coins.

At the end of your move, pass the bag to the next player in a clockwise direction.

Note: The pirate ship is passed on only after the end of the round.

End of the Round

The round ends when a player has placed the last black coin on the island.

Throw all of the black coins back into the bag and raise up the game board. Now each player counts their collected gold coins. Next the parrot cards and then the treasure chest cards are awarded.

Parrot cards: The player who has the fewest coins may draw two parrot cards from the deck. If several players have the fewest coins, these players may take two parrot cards. The player(s) add the coins depicted on the parrot cards to their gold coins.

Treasure chest cards: Now all the players get treasure chest cards.

  • The player(s) with the fewest coins: 1 treasure chest card
  • The player(s) with the second fewest coins: 2 treasure chest cards
  • etc.

Note: The player with the most coins get max. 4 treasure chest cards.

The cards are your winnings. You may look at them. Then place them face down again and keep them at your place until the end of the game.

Tip: When younger players play, the coins can also be stacked in order to compare them with the coins of the other players. If a player gets a parrot card, they take a coin out of the bag for each of the coins depicted on the card and place these on their stack. Now the player with the lowest stack gets a treasure chest card, etc.

Example: Pia has collected 10 gold coins. Elisa has 13 coins in her box. Jakob and Theo have collected the fewest gold coins, 8 each. They may each take 2 parrot cards. 2 coins are depicted on Jakob's parrot cards, and now he has a total of 10 coins. Theo can see 3 coins on his parrot cards, and he has thereby a total of 11 coins. The treasure chest cards are now distributed as follows: Pia and Jakob both have 10 coins and thereby the fewest. They each receive a treasure chest card. Theo has the second fewest coins and may take 2 treasure chest cards. Elisa has the most coins and receives 3 cards.

Preparation for the Next Round

Place the used parrot cards aside; they are no longer needed. All of the coins go back into the bag and are briefly mixed. Place the game board back on the interlocking cross. The pirate ship moves in a clockwise direction to the next player. This player begins the next round.

End of the Game

The game ends when the ship has traveled once around the island, that is, after each player has been a starting player once.

Now all the players count their cards that show treasure chests filled with gold. Empty treasure chests unfortunately do not count. The player wins who has collected the most filled treasure chests. In case of a tie, the player wins who has the most treasure chest cards all told (filled and empty treasure chests).
