Against All Odds

After the chaotic but successful events in Cantaloop – Book 1: Breaking into Prison, Oz "Hook" Carpenter has gathered his team. Your contraband's unique skills had to be trained in Cantaloop – Book 2: A Hack of A Plan, in this paper point & click adventure. Now it's high noon: Leroy White, we are coming for you! Explore beautifully illustrated locations, chat with new characters, solve more of those tricky puzzles.

Cantaloop, the interactive adventure series by Lookout Games, is a story game in book format. Like an old school "point & click adventure game," this game tells a non-linear story full of quirky characters, pretty useless items and tough riddles:

  • Explore beautiful locations
  • Collect and combine items
  • Talk to different characters
  • Find out how the story unfolds
  • Enjoy 9-12 hours of fun
  • Play solo, or with friends

Components

As specified by Lookout Games on the game's official product page:

  • 1 adventure book
  • 1 trigger sheet
  • 1 decoder (red foil)
  • 1 inventory sheet
  • 72 cards
  • 1 post card
  • Several miscellaneous items

The Trigger Sheet

The trigger sheet is printed as a grid of columns 1 through 9 crossed with rows A through Q, skipping the letters I and O, so each box is labeled, e.g., A1, B4, Q9. A padlock icon numbered "1" is printed above the grid.

Four groups of three boxes in the upper-right of the grid are each highlighted in a different color and marked with an arrow pointing to a four-character code: row A, columns 7–9 (red) points to "i0i6"; row B, columns 7–9 (yellow) points to "s0p6"; row C, columns 7–9 (green) points to "x9h5"; row D, columns 7–9 (blue) points to "r0z4".

Below the grid is an illustration of a wristwatch. Its face is marked "IN" near the 3 o'clock position and "OUT" near the 6 o'clock position, with a skull icon between the 12 and 3 o'clock positions connected to the center of the watch face by a dashed line.

Keep the trigger sheet next to the book as you play. The book's encrypted text periodically instructs you to check off specific boxes on this grid; mark them off only when instructed to do so.

Official FAQ

Published by Lookout Games on the game's official product page.

Why is there no rulebook for download available?

"Cantaloop" is an interactive book and so are the rules. The introduction of the book teaches you all rules on the fly so that studying the rules is not necessary!

Do I need to have already read / solved the other two books to play book three?

It helps, of course, if you want to enjoy the whole weird story. But each part of the trilogy is self-contained, so it can be played independently. Also, you will find different types of puzzles in each book.

Let's be honest. It still looks like any other escape room game, right?

No. While the game mechanics certainly could be used to create an escape room style game, "Cantaloop" is not doing this. The game is more like a classic "Point & Click" adventure, known from PC. Unlike any similar games, with Cantaloop, nothing has to be destroyed, folded, cut or tampered with. You even got a cool option to "save" your game any time!
