Content

  • 72 Crowd Pieces (3 sets front and back with 24 pieces each)
  • 24 Team Cards
  • 1 Stadium Board
  • 1 Action Rondel
  • 2 Player Aids
  • 25 Mosaic Cards
  • 1 Ball Token
  • 4 Penalty Cards
  • 6 Scoring Markers (1 of each color)
  • 1 Coin Token
  • 10 Power Tokens

Setup

  1. Place the stadium board and action rondel at the center of the table within reach of both players.
  2. Each player must randomly choose or pick a team card. If indicated in the upper left corner of the card, also get the corresponding power tokens.
  3. Check the top right corner of the card to see which color you should play. If both cards indicate the same color, one of the players must turn his card over to the back, which will indicate a new color. Each player then takes the set of crowd pieces of that color, shuffles it and places it next to the board.
  4. Take the top 5 crowd pieces from each set and place them adjacent to each of the 5 faces of the action rondel.
  5. Place the chosen team color score markers on the 0 space on the board score track.
  6. Place the ball token in the rondel space.
  7. Shuffle the mosaic cards and place them face down next to the board.
  8. Give each player a reference card (player aid) and a random penalty card. Do not reveal your penalty card to your opponent.
  9. Play heads or tails with the coin and decide who will be the starting player.

Your Turn

On your turn, you must move the ball on the rondel, pick up a piece and place it on your side of the stadium. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Movement: Move the ball on the rondel 1, 2 or 3 spaces clockwise.
  2. Discard: Take the opposing team's piece and place it next to you.
  3. Purchase and Placement: Take your team's piece and place it on an empty space in your side of the stadium. If you place it on a space with a different symbol than the one on the side of the rondel, score 2 goals for your opponent.
  4. Scoring: All crowd pieces have an immediate effect that most of the time grants victory points (goals). Check the player aid for how many points the piece you are placing will grant you. In the case of Mosaic tiles, buy the amount of mosaic cards indicated on the player aid (see Mosaics below).
  5. Refill: Fill the side of the rondel with the crowd piece from the top of each stack.

Example: Ronaldo decides to move 1 space with the ball in the rondel. He moves the marker to the next side (diamond symbol), discards the opponent's Song tile and takes the Ola (Wave) tile from his team. He then places the Ola piece in a space with the diamond symbol on his side of the stadium, avoiding giving 2 goals to the opponent. As it is the first Ola of the game, Ronaldo scores 3 goals. Then he replaces the rondel with two more pieces, one from each team.

Tips

  • Placing a piece on a different symbol can be worthwhile in many situations, whether to deny your opponent an important piece or to place a piece that will score a lot of points.
  • Try to anticipate your opponent's move: avoid leaving a valuable piece within his reach.

Player Aid

It indicates the immediate effects of each type of crowd piece and their quantities:

  • The 5 different types of crowd pieces are the rows.
  • The numbers beside each type indicate how many pieces of that type there are per team.
  • The columns indicate the effect according to the number of pieces of the same type.
  • The last column indicates the points you score if you have more pieces of a certain type than your opponent.
  • Numbers inside a star indicate points (goals).
  • The Mosaic card symbol indicates Mosaic cards.

Example of how to read the player aid: When placing your third Music (Song) piece, and if you meet the prerequisites, you score 4 goals.

Piece (per team)1st2nd3rd4th5th6th7th8thMost pieces
Flags (5)135710----
Songs (5)12468----
Fireworks (5)

(The Waves row counts all wave pieces in the stadium, both teams. Values are read from the player aid illustration, which matches the figures printed beside each piece type below.)

Flags (5 pieces per set)

The bigger your flag, the better!

When placing a flag piece, count how many of your flag pieces are connected to each other in a continuous sequence, forming a group. Check in the player aid how many points that amount gives and score them. Flag pieces placed separately from other flag pieces are considered different groups.

  • 1st Flag in a group: Score 1;
  • 2nd Flag in a group: Score 3 more;
  • 3rd Flag in a group: Score 5 more;
  • 4th Flag in a group: Score 7 more;
  • 5th Flag in a group: Score 10 more.

Important

  • If you start two different flag groups and merge them together, they become a single flag group. Score points referring to the total amount of this new group.
  • Your team has only 5 flag pieces. When discarded by the opponent, you will no longer be able to score your high score, but it can still be worth the investment.

Example: 1st Piece - The player scores 1; 2nd Piece - Also 1 (not in sequence); 3rd Piece - 3 (forms a flag group of 2 pieces together with the last one placed); If the next flag piece is placed on this space, the player will unite the two groups together, forming a 4 piece group and scoring 7.

Songs (5 pieces per set)

An exciting song has to be sung in order!

When placing a Song piece, count how many of your Song pieces are in alphabetical and clockwise order on your side of the stadium. Check the player aid for how many points that amount gives and score them. Songs out of order score 0.

  • 1st Song in order: Score 1;
  • 2nd Song in order: Score 2 more;
  • 3rd Song in order: Score 4 more;
  • 4th Song in order: Score 6 more;
  • 5th Song in order: Score 8 more.

Example: 1st Piece (C) - The player scores 1; 2nd Piece (A) - 2 (A comes before C and was placed in clockwise order); 3rd Piece (E) - 4 (E goes after C and was placed in clockwise order). If the B piece was placed here, the player would score 0, since it is out of order. The D piece otherwise would score 6, as D goes between C and E.

Important

  • As soon as a song piece is placed out of order, all future pieces score 0, because the music was sung wrong.
  • Letters do not have to be adjacent, just in alphabetical order. You can place first a C, then an A and then a B, for example.
  • The opposing side of the stadium interrupts your song. A piece with the letter A placed in the last space of your side is not in order with a letter B placed in the first space.

Fireworks (5 pieces per set)

It takes a lot of fireworks to light up the sky with your color!

When placing a fireworks piece, count how many of your fireworks pieces are in your side of the stadium. Check the player aid for how many points that amount gives and score them. At the end of the match, the player who has the most fireworks pieces on their side of the stadium scores 4 goals. In the event of a tie, neither player scores points.

  • 1st Firework: Score 1;
  • 2nd Firework: Score 1 more;
  • 3rd Firework: Score 2 more;
  • 4th Firework: Score 2 more;
  • 5th Firework: Score 3 more.

Mosaics (5 pieces per set)

Mosaics can form surprising things at the end of the game!

When placing a mosaic piece, count how many of your mosaic tiles are on your side of the stadium. Check the player aid for how many mosaic cards that amount gives and draw them. When discarding cards, choose from the ones you drew and from your hand and place them at the bottom of the deck. At the end of the game, players reveal their cards and score them.

  • 1st Mosaic: Draw a card;
  • 2nd Mosaic: Draw one more card;
  • 3rd Mosaic: Draw two more cards and discard one;
  • 4th Mosaic: Draw three more cards and discard two;
  • 5th Mosaic: Draw three more cards and discard one.

Waves (4 pieces per set)

Waves cheer the two crowds passing through the entire stadium!

When placing a wave tile, count how many wave tiles are in the entire stadium, whether yours or not. Check the player aid for how many points that amount gives and score them.

  • 1st Wave at the stadium: Score 3;
  • 2nd Wave at the stadium: Score 4 more;
  • 3rd Wave at the stadium: Score 5 more;
  • 4th Wave at the stadium: Score 6 more;
  • 5th Wave at the stadium: Score 3 more;
  • 6th Wave at the stadium: Score 2 more;
  • 7th Wave at the stadium: Score 1 more;
  • 8th Wave at the stadium: Score 0.

Example: 1st Wave - The yellow player scores 3; 2nd Wave - The white player scores 4; 3rd Wave - The yellow player scores 5 more.

End of the Game

The match ends when all spaces in the stadium are occupied. Then the last points are counted to see who won:

  • The player who has the most fireworks pieces on their side of the stadium scores 4 goals. In the event of a tie, neither player scores points.
  • Players reveal and score their mosaic cards.

Check the score. If one of the players has scored more goals than the other, he is declared the winner!

In case of a tie in the number of goals, regardless of the amount of points each one has, the match will go to penalties.

Penalties

The game will only go to penalties if the players end up tied for the amount of goals.

If this happens, both reveal their penalty cards. Each one will indicate a piece type.

Then each player will score 1 penalty goal for each of their pieces that matches his card and his opponent's card. Whoever makes the most goals in the sum of the two cards will be the winner!

If after the penalty shootout the game remains tied, the players must reveal a new penalty card and count their goals accordingly. If the tie persists, the last penalty card in the game is revealed and the players count that as well.

On the off chance that the game remains tied after all penalty cards are revealed, players remain tied or use the game coin to flip a coin toss to decide who will be the big winner!

Example: Marta has the card that scores 1 goal per piece of Flag. Ronaldo has the card that scores 1 goal per Fireworks piece. Marta has 3 flags and 2 fireworks, she then scores 5 goals. Ronaldo has 1 flag and 3 fireworks, so he scores 4 goals. Marta wins!

7-1 Mode (Solo Variant)

In this mode, you play alone and need to win a match that is halfway through, where the score is already 7-1 to the opposing team.

The rules are the same as in the regular game, with the following exceptions:

Setup

  1. Place the opponent's score marker at goal number 7.
  2. Place your score marker one space before the goal number 2.
  3. Separate mosaic cards #11 to #15 (10 cards) and return them to the box.

Your Turn

In 7-1 mode, there is only your turn. On the other hand, every opponent's discarded piece is put into play as if he had chosen it. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Move the ball in the rondel normally, 1, 2 or 3 spaces clockwise.
  2. Take the opposing team's piece and place it on their side in the first space clockwise with the same symbol as where it was taken. If there are no more spaces available with that symbol, place it in the first available clockwise space and score 2 goals for you.
  3. Then take your team's piece and place it on your side of the stadium as normal.

Example: Ronaldo decided to move the ball 1 space. Then, he takes the white piece and places it on the opponent's side. As the first diamond space is occupied, the piece is placed on the second diamond space. Then Ronaldo places his piece.

Mosaics

When placing an opposing mosaic piece, take only the first card from the mosaic deck and reveal it so you can see it, regardless of the number of mosaic pieces on his side of the stadium.

Discard

In this mode there is no discard of your pieces or your opponent's. However, once per round and before the replacement step, you can score 1 goal for your opponent and place the top pieces of each set at the bottom of each pile.

Teams

Your opponent does not have a defined team, and therefore has no special powers. You, on the other hand, can choose and normally use any team that doesn't have the "12" crossed-out icon. Teams with this icon have powers that don't work with the 7-1 rules, so they're not recommended.

End of the Game

It happens the same way as in the normal game: Score the mosaic cards and the fireworks. The opposing team will have a total of 7 goals plus the amount of goals they can score by scoring the pieces placed. Your goal is to have more goals than him, or draw and win on penalties. Remember that your opponent's penalty card is only revealed at the end of the game.

Difficulty Adjustment

This solo mode is already quite difficult, but if you want to make it even more difficult, you can move the starting position of your score marker back as many spaces as you want, until the space with the goal number 1.

Teamless Mode (Family Variant)

For an introductory match, it can be interesting to play without choosing teams for the players. This will allow players to become more familiar with the rest of the game's rules.

Teams Difficulty

In this game are included 24 teams with very different powers for you to choose and play. Of course, you'll be playing with the team you root for first, but we want to warn you: some powers are harder to master than others. This does not mean that one is stronger and the other is weaker. It's just that some require more experience to understand its nuances than others.

To symbolize this, there are 3 balls at the bottom of the team cards. If only one of them is more visible, it means this is an easy power to master (Easy). If all three of them are visible, it means this one is more difficult (Hard). A medium difficulty is also shown on the rulebook's legend (Easy / Medium / Hard).

Championships

12th Player is essentially a game for 2 players. However, it also makes perfect sense to gather some friends and create a championship! We recommend a simple key system: Match 1 (Player 1 vs Player 2) and Match 2 (Player 3 vs Player 4), with the two winners meeting in the final to determine the Champion. With two or more copies of the game it is even easier to organize matches.
