Contents of the Box

Cards, including: Nuggets, Salt or Pepper (Sel ou Poivre), Blue Menus, Red Menus, Addition, Burger of Death (Burger de la Mort), Miam (50 cards), Mayo (1 card), Ketchup (1 card). (The quantities of the other card types are illegible in the source image.)

Object of the Game

The object of the game is to be the first to total 25 Miam by answering the questions asked, in order to attempt the ultimate challenge: the Burger of Death!

Setup

Open the packets of cards and sort them by type of round: Nuggets, Salt or Pepper, Blue Menus, Red Menus, Addition, Burger of Death. Each packet must be placed in the corresponding compartment inside the box (the Blue Menus and Red Menus are placed together in the small compartment).

The 50 Miam cards are divided into equal packets. They are placed face-up in the box at the end of the game (as a scoring reserve). The Mayo and Ketchup cards are placed on top of the Miam cards.

Number of Players

2 players or 2 teams of players, with no limit on the number of players per team. With over 1000 players, you must think about playing in a very large room. You can also play exactly as on the TV show with a game master who does not take part in the game. The game master is not obliged to dress up like Alain Chabot, but it is nice if he or she does.

Rules of the Game

The Burger Quiz game is divided into two big parts. In the first part, a series of rounds lets the players or teams accumulate Miam until a total of 25 Miam. The first to reach 25 Miam then attempts the Burger of Death. The TOSS round determines which players play first and consequently answer the questions FIRST. After each round, the player or team who answers the questions asked in the order of the paragraphs plays on. Different TOSS rounds are proposed; choose one from the list, or invent your own. The winner of the TOSS chooses to play with either the Ketchup or the Mayo.

The TOSS

Pierre-feuille-ciseaux (Rock-paper-scissors). One player from each team plays a round of rock-paper-scissors ("pierre, feuille, ciseaux"). They say "Chi-cou-mi" together, and when pronouncing "mi", each shows one of the three possibilities: the stone (closed fist), the leaf (flat hand) or the scissors (two fingers). The stone wins against the scissors, the leaf wraps the stone, and the scissors cut the leaf.

Ce sera toi (It will be you). A player recites one of the two rhymes. While chanting, he or she pronounces each syllable while pointing a finger at the players in turn. The winner is the player on whom the last syllable of the rhyme falls.

  • Short version: "Ce-le-ra-toi-qui-com-men-ce-ra".
  • Long version: a longer counting-out rhyme to be recited in the same way (as printed on the sheet).

Pile ou face avec une carte de crédit (Heads or tails with a credit card). Players toss a card as one would a coin.

Hou-fleur. Players sit face to face. Each puts one finger in front of the other, in turn. The player who can reach the other first with a pinch wins. (The wording of this item is partly illegible in the source image.)

Le plus petit nombre ou le plus grand nombre (au choix) (The smallest or the largest number, as chosen). The formula is written beforehand on a sheet of paper by the game master or a player. The players give a number aloud. The player with the smaller or larger number according to the formula wins.

Le calcul mental (Mental arithmetic). Multiply the date of your birth by 5.

Dans quelle main (Which hand). One player hides a coin in one hand. The other finds it and wins.

Ping-pong. Themes: Tom Cruise films, Sylvester Stallone films, a kind of cheese, an animal, a part of the body, and so on. Once a theme has been chosen, the players in turn each give an example. The first player to run out (or repeat) loses.

Le meilleur dessin (The best drawing). The winner is the one who draws best on the chosen themes. Themes: a chair, a dog, a wardrobe, a burger, a hat.

Le concours d'avalage (Swallowing contest). The players each take a plate or other choice: chips, peanuts, sweets, or bits of pork fat. The first to swallow in 10 seconds wins. (Partly illegible in the source image.)

Le dé (The die). Each player throws a die. Three formulas to designate the winner: the highest, the lowest, or the closest to 2.

Celui qui tient le plus longtemps en équilibre sur une jambe. The one who stays balanced on one leg the longest.

Je te tiens par la barbichette. "I hold you by the little beard" (the staring game): the first to laugh loses.

La baffe dans la gueule (The slap). In turn, the players slap each other. The one who declares forfeit loses.

Le pile ou fesses. The first to show his or her bottom wins. (Wording uncertain in the source image.)

Celui qui imite le mieux l'éléphant. The one who imitates the elephant best.

Celui qui fait le mieux la roue. The one who does the best cartwheel.

Celui qui attrape le premier le stylo posé au milieu. The one who is first to grab the pen placed in the middle.

Play with a Game Master

Example: the Mayo team won the TOSS.

Nuggets (1 Miam per correct answer)

The game master takes the first NUGGETS card from the packet and asks the first question to the Mayo team. He or she asks the second question to the Ketchup team, and so on.

NB: the information between parentheses must not be read aloud. It gives the precise details on the answers. Read the questions recto and verso of the card: 3 questions per team.

Salt or Pepper (Sel ou Poivre) (1 Miam per correct answer)

The game master takes the first SALT or PEPPER card from the packet and reads the title of the questionnaire to all players. This is a SPEED round: all participants play at the same time and answer the question correctly. The game master asks the questions and designates the player who answered the quickest.

In case of a wrong answer, the Miam is awarded to the other team.

NB: read only one side of the card.

Menus (1 Miam per correct answer)

The game master takes a BLUE MENU card and a RED MENU card. He or she proposes to the Mayo team its 3 menus (blue menu recto-verso, on the card of the red menu). He or she asks the series of questions on the theme chosen. Then, he or she proposes to the Ketchup team the two menus remaining and asks the questions of the second menu chosen.

NB: read only one side of the card.

L'Addition (The Bill) (1 Miam per correct answer)

The game master takes the first ADDITION card and reads the title of the questionnaire to all players. This is a SPEED round: all players play at the same time and answer the question correctly. The game master asks the questions all the way through.

In case of a wrong answer, the Miam are awarded to the other team.

NB: read only one side of the card.

End of the Rounds

The first of the two teams to reach a total of 25 Miam is declared the winner and attempts the Burger of Death. If neither team has reached 25 Miam, start again with a game until a total of 25 Miam is reached.

Play without a Game Master or with 2 Players

Example: the Mayo team won the TOSS.

Nuggets (1 Miam per correct answer)

The Ketchup team draws a card and asks questions 1, 2 and 3 to the Mayo team. The Mayo team then draws a card and asks questions 4, 5 and 6 to the Ketchup team.

NB: the information between parentheses must not be read aloud. The teams giving the precise details on the answers.

Salt or Pepper (Sel ou Poivre)

This is a SPEED round. In each team, a game master is designated. A SALT or PEPPER card is drawn; the game master reads the questions in turn to all players taking part in the game. FOR TWO PLAYERS: each player draws the card SALT or PEPPER in turn and asks the questions to the opponent.

NB: in case of cheating or a wrong answer, the Miam is awarded to the opposing team. Read only one side of the card.

Menus (1 Miam per correct answer)

The Ketchup team draws a blue and a red menu card. It proposes the 3 menus to the Mayo team, which chooses one and answers the series of questions on the theme chosen. Then the Mayo team proposes the two remaining menus to the Ketchup team, which does the same with the second menu chosen.

L'Addition (The Bill) (1 Miam per correct answer)

This is a SPEED round. In each team, a new game master is designated. An ADDITION card is drawn; the game masters read the questions in turn to all players taking part in the game. FOR TWO PLAYERS: each player draws the card ADDITION in turn and asks the questions to the opponent.

NB: in case of cheating or a wrong answer, the Miam are awarded to the opposing team. Read only one side of the card.

End of the Rounds

The first of the two teams to reach a total of 25 Miam is declared the winner and attempts the Burger of Death. If neither team has reached 25 Miam, start again with a game until a total of 25 Miam is reached.

The Burger of Death (Le Burger de la Mort)

The winning team designates one candidate for the Burger of Death test. The game master or a player from the opposing team takes a BURGER OF DEATH card and reads 10 questions to the player, who must wait until the whole questionnaire has been read before answering, in order.

He or she must not take notes or have the answers repeated. If the player succeeds in answering the ten questions in order, he or she wins the Small Burger of Death. If the player succeeds in answering five questions in order... (this passage is partly illegible in the source image) ... he or she wins the Small Burger of Death; if the player succeeds in answering ten questions in order, he or she wins the Great Burger of Death.

The Grand Miam

Certain questions are subject to several possible answers. Examples: "All the answers end in AM" or "All the answers begin with S". We offer certain answers, more or less, in a certain direction. Other answers, some acceptable and others not, can be discussed or contested. Sometimes players claim a good answer and refuse to give it. Make the game master give a Miam in this case.

If the game master gives a Miam, the player must turn to the Grand Miam. In case of dispute, the game master decides that the claim is justified: "Ah... the Grand Miam signals to me that it is all right. I agree"; or "Ah no, the Grand Miam signals to me that it is not accepted." Otherwise, it ends there.

(The Grand Miam paragraph is only partly legible in the source image; the wording above is approximate.)
