Rules of the Game

The source sheet is headed "Королевский замок" (Royal Castle), the Russian edition title. The game is for 2 to 4 players, ages 6 and up.

Components

45 cards numbered 2 to 46, each of which is part of a wall.

4 starting cards, each with a flag of its own colour and the number 1.

Setup

The 45 cards numbered 2 to 46 are shuffled and laid out on the table face down. The cards do not have to be laid out in an orderly row; they may be spread out at random.

Each player takes a starting card with a flag and places it in front of themselves. This card is the start of their wall.

Turn Order

The youngest player goes first. Play passes clockwise.

On their turn, a player turns over any one of the cards in the centre of the table face up, so that all players can see what is shown on it. The player who turned the card over must then choose one of two options:

  • Turn the card back over, face down, and place it back in the same place.
  • Take the card and add it to their wall. A card may be added only if its number is greater than the number on the last card of the wall (the rightmost card). The new card is placed to the right of that card.

In both cases the turn ends and passes to the next player clockwise.

Illustration in the source: a wall reads 1, 6, 17 (1 being a tower). A card numbered 13 is shown crossed out, because 13 is smaller than 17. A card numbered 26 is shown being placed to the right of 17.

End of the Game

As soon as one of the players creates a wall of 10 cards (including the starting card), that player is declared the winner. Remember that all the cards in a wall must be in ascending order.

If all the cards still available on the table are smaller than the numbers on the rightmost cards of the players' walls, the player with the largest wall (the one made up of the most cards) wins. In case of a tie, the player who has the card with the highest number in their wall is declared the winner.

Extended Rules

The following section is the extended (advanced) rules printed on the first page of the source. The rules section above is the basic game.

Goal of the Game

The goal of the game is to score the most points. Each card scores one point. However, some cards score additional points.

King

The King scores 3 points at the end of the game.

Queen

The Queen scores 3 points at the end of the game.

Wizard

The Wizard scores no additional points. It allows the player who owns it to add a new card between two cards that are already in the wall. This action can be performed only once, when a card is received on the player's turn.

Prince and Princess

Each Prince and Princess pair scores one additional point. The Prince and the Princess do not have to be adjacent to each other.

Cannons

Cannons score no additional points. The player who owns a Cannon may discard a card from an opponent's wall.

A Cannon must be used immediately when it is received. If it cannot be used, nothing happens. The player may remove any card from an opponent's wall, except for cards that lie between two Towers and the Towers themselves.

Towers

Towers score no additional points, but they protect the wall from Cannons. Towers, and the cards located between them, cannot be discarded with a Cannon.

Ravens

Ravens score additional points. Each Raven scores 1 point, but no more than 5 points per player.

End of the Game

The game ends under the same conditions as in the standard rules. The winner is not necessarily the player who completed their wall first, but the player who scored the most points.
