The Goal of the Game

Bubble Bomb is a fast-paced game in which all players simultaneously try to collect 7 chips matching one of the 9 bomb tokens, because that's how you score points!

Getting Ready to Play

Place the bubble bomb token face up on the table within easy reach of all players. Put the other 8 bomb tokens around the bubble bomb with a random side up. Then, drop all 56 plastic chips into the cloth bag and mix them up. Draw 9 chips out of the bag and put them in the middle of the table with a random side up. Finally, each player draws 7 chips from the bag and puts them in front of himself or herself – now you are ready to start!

How to Play

One player gives a starting signal, and off you go! All players simultaneously try to complete one or more of the following combinations:

  • 7 chips of the same color or 7 chips showing the same symbol
    • Color Bomb: 7 chips of the same color. Note: can be any symbol.
    • Symbol Bomb: 7 chips showing the same symbol. Note: can be any color.
  • 7 chips of different colors or 7 chips with different symbols
    • For the "rainbow bomb", you must have all 7 of the different colors, while the "all symbols" bomb requires all 7 of the different symbols.
  • 7 chips which include all different colors and all different symbols
    • The requirements of the bubble bomb are the hardest to meet! For this one you need to combine not only all 7 different colors, but all 7 different symbols, too. However, it doesn't have to be the exact 7 chips which are shown on the bubble bomb token – that is just an example.

So How Do I Do That?

In order to make these combinations, the players can turn over their own chips ❶, turn over the chips in the middle ❷ or swap their chips for chips in the middle ❸.

When a player swaps chips with the middle, he or she must always put one of his or her own chips into the middle first, before taking one from the middle. Remember: Players do not take turns, but all play at the same time!

Important: Players may only use one hand at a time!

BOOM!

As soon as a player completes a combination using his or her own 7 chips that matches one of those shown on the bombs, he or she shouts: "Boom!" Everyone must stop playing for a moment, so they can check if the player has indeed correctly matched a combination.

  • A player who completes a color or symbol bomb takes one of his or her own chips and sets it aside. Each chip set aside in this way is worth 1 victory point at the end of the game. The player then replaces the chip by drawing a new one from the bag. Lastly, he or she flips over the bomb token just matched to the other side, and the game resumes.
  • A player who completes the rainbow or takes a chip from the bag and sets it aside as a victory point. Then, he or she swaps all 7 of his or her chips for 7 chips from the middle, flips the bomb token over to the other side, and the game resumes.
  • It is possible to make a combination that matches the requirements of two bombs at the same time – for example, by getting 7 red chips with 7 different symbols. A player who manages this sets 2 chips aside as victory points, draws 2 new chips from the bag, and turns over both bomb tokens – at which point the game resumes.
  • A player who completes the bubble bomb takes the bubble bomb token and puts it in front of him- or herself – even if that token is not in the middle, but in front of another player! The bubble bomb token is worth 3 victory points at the end of the game. The player then swaps all of his or her chips for chips from the middle and gives the signal for the game to resume.

If it turns out that a player wrongly called "Boom!", the game simply goes on as soon as it's discovered.

BANZAI!

A player who already has 6 of the 7 chips needed for a combination in front of him or herself, and who spots the last remaining chip needed in front of another player, can call out: "Banzai!" Again, the game pauses at this point. The player who called "Banzai!" may, as an exception to the normal rules, swap one chip with another player to get the final chip needed to complete a combination.

The End of the Game

If there are 4 players, the game immediately ends as soon as the last chip is drawn from the bag. Each chip set aside is worth 1 victory point, while the bubble bomb token scores 3 points for the player who has it at the end of the game. The player (or players) with the most victory points wins the game! If there are only 2 or 3 players, the game ends as soon as one player has reached 9 victory points. That player wins the game!
