Overview

The game is played over several rounds. You win a round by getting rid of all your cards before your opponents. The first player to score 3 points wins the game.

Card Strength: In this game, the strength of the cards is determined by their numerical value: 1 < 2 < 3 < 4 < 5 < 6 < 7 < 8

Note: The higher the number, the stronger the card.

How to Play Cards: There are three ways to play cards:

  • A. Single Card Play: Play one card of any value. Examples: 1; 4.
  • B. Multiple Card Play: Play two or more cards of the same value. Examples: 5-5; 2-2-2.
  • C. Sequential Play: Play three or more consecutive numbers of the same colour. Examples: 1-2-3; 2-3-4-5.

Setup

  1. Deal 1 Player aid to each player.
  2. Shuffle all the Monster cards together, then deal a certain number of cards, face down, to each player according to the table below. These cards form each player's hand.
  3. Place the remaining Monster cards, face down, as a shared draw pile (except for a 6-player game).
  4. Set the Point cards aside. They will be used at the end of the rounds.

2-PLAYER ONLY: At the start of each round, both players are dealt two separate hands of 11 cards: one 11-card hand for the first half of the round and one 11-card hand for the second half of the round. Without looking at either hand, players pick up one hand and set the other aside.

  1. Determine the first player:
    • A. For the first round, choose the first player using any method.
    • B. For the following rounds, the player to the left of the last first player becomes the new first player.

2-PLAYER ONLY: For the first half of the first round, choose the first player using any method. At the end of the first half, the losing player becomes the first player for the second half. Then, for the first half of the following round, the first player is the one who did not start the previous round. Continue this way, round after round.

Round Flow

Players take turns in a clockwise direction. On their turn, a player must either:

  1. play one or more cards,
  2. or skip their turn and draw a card.

1) Play one or more cards

On the first turn of each round only, the first player must play a single card and cannot add any Plus cards.

On their turn, players must play the same number of cards as the previous combination, but with higher values. They can use Plus cards to do so.

Examples: 2 beaten by 3, beaten by 5. 3-3 beaten by 4-4, beaten by 6-6. 2-3-4 beaten by 3-4-5.

2) Pass and draw a card

If you cannot play or strategically choose not to play, say "pass". If you say so, take the top card of the draw pile and add it to your hand. Then, you skip your turn and the next player starts theirs. If the draw pile has run out of cards, you can still skip your turn, but you take no card.

  • On your next turn, you can decide to play cards or to pass again.

No one has played a stronger combination

If a player has played a combination of cards and no other player has beaten it, then when it's that player's turn again:

  1. Discard the cards in the center of the table.
  2. This player plays any combination (single, multiple, or sequence) to start a new round.

You cannot pass when starting a new round.

Continue this process until one of the players has played all of their cards.

End of the Round and Scoring

As soon as a player has used up all their cards, the round ends and that player scores points (the other players don't score points).

Count the number of Special cards remaining in the other players' hands and in the shared draw pile. The player who ended the round (or one half of a round in a 2-player game, see below for more information) gets points depending on the number of remaining Special cards:

  • 0-4 cards: 1 point
  • 5-9 cards: 2 points
  • 10 or more cards: 3 points

That player takes the necessary Point cards to keep track of their score.

2-PLAYER ONLY: As soon as one player runs out of cards, the first half ends immediately and that player gets points depending on the number of remaining Special cards. Then, both players proceed to the second half and as soon as one player runs out of cards, the second half ends immediately and that player gets points. Thus, in a 2-player game, points are awarded twice during each round: after the first half and after the second half.

Then, begin a new round, starting from the SETUP section. Continue playing until a player has accumulated 3 or more points in total.

End of the Game

The game ends when a player has accumulated 3 or more points in total, and that player wins the game.

Special Cards

There are 4 types of cards with special effects.

Plus

These cards show a + symbol next to their numbers.

  • You can play a single Plus card to replace a Classic card of the same colour and number. Example: 2+ = 2
  • You can play several Plus cards of the same colour to replace a Classic card of the same colour and whose number would be the sum of these Plus cards. Example: 2+ and 3+ = 5
  • Or you can play one or several Plus cards of one colour in combination with a Classic card of the same colour to replace a Classic card of the same colour and whose number would be the sum of all these cards. Examples: 8, 3+ and 4+ = 15; 5, 2+, 4, 3+ and 7 = 7-7-7

Wild

These cards show a Wild symbol below their numbers. You can play a Wild card to replace a Classic card of the same number and of the colour of your choice (Red, Blue, or Yellow).

Examples: 2, Wild 3, 4 = 2-3-4. 5, 6, Wild 5, 2+ = 5-6-7 (the Wild 5 and the 2+ together replace the 7).

Stop

These cards show a Stop symbol below their numbers. You can play a Stop card as a single card or in a combination of cards if:

  • The last card played was a single card with a number equal to or greater than 6; (examples: 6 answered by Stop 1; 7 answered by Stop 1)
  • The last cards played were in a combination with one or several Plus cards and the sum of it was equal to or greater than 6; (examples: 3, 4+ = 7 answered by Stop 1; 6-7-5-3+ answered by the sequence 1-2-3)
  • The last cards played were in a combination and included a card with a number equal to or greater than 6. (examples: 4-5-6 answered by 1-2-3 including a Stop card; 7-7 answered by 1-1 including a Stop card)

If you do, discard the cards in the center of the table, then the player who played the Stop card starts a new round: they select one of the three play options (single, multiple, or sequential) and play one or several cards face up from their hand.

You can also play a Stop card as a 1-value card, without activating the Stop effect.

Stop & Wild

This card shows the Stop and Wild symbols below its numbers. Apply both the Stop and Wild effects.
