Components
The rules remain the same, and all existing components (cards, board, tokens, etc.) are fully compatible with the 11 brand-new missions.
- The Box, which can be stored inside the base game box (you'll need to remove the black box, the wire tiles and the wire stands).
- The Bags, which allow you to add the mission-specific wires (yellow, red and star) and mix them in the large black bag before distributing them.
- The Acrylic Wire Tiles, which replace the wires from the base game. All Bomb Busters missions can be played by replacing the classic wires with these.
- Two New Wires: the one-star wire and the two-star wire. These two star wires have different roles depending on the mission. Watch out for them!
Note: the rules sheet shows the two new wires only as star-marked tile images; the printed text refers to them as "the [star icon] wire and the [star icon] wire". They are named here by their star count for clarity.
Clarifications for the New Components
Stands
Wires are now placed on the table and the concept of a "tile stand" evolves. A "stand" now corresponds to a row of wire tiles placed and sorted in front of you.
With 2 players, as well as for the Captain with 3 players, you therefore have two "stands": two rows of wires to cut, placed side by side.
Star Wires
Some new missions will indicate specific roles for these star wires.
Spice Up Bomb Busters Base Game Missions
To increase the difficulty of many missions from the base game, you may add the star wires and follow the rules below:
- The one-star wire has a sorting value of 0.
- The two-star wire has a sorting value of 13.
- The star wires must always be cut together.
Expert version: They are considered as blue wires, but no Info token may be placed in front of them.
Mega-expert version: In addition, if a star wire is designated with an incorrect value, BOOM! (It explodes like a red wire.)
Warning: Some missions have rules that are challenging enough even without the star wires. We warned you, so do not try this at home!
FAQ: Star Wires and Equipment
- The detectors (Double, Triple and Super) may be used to search for a star wire. However, no Info token may be placed in front of a star wire designated with an incorrect value. If all wires designated with an incorrect value are only star wires and red wires, then BOOM!
- Equipment 4 (Post-it) cannot be used on star wires.
- Equipment 8 (General Radar) applies only to blue wires numbered 1 to 12 and cannot be used on star wires.
- Equipment 9 (Stabilizer) allows you to avoid an explosion in missions where designating a star wire with an incorrect value would normally cause the bomb to explode (as with a red wire).
