Aim

Score points by correctly guessing the objects built by the other players — and by them guessing yours.

Components

  • Blocks (a shared pile of coloured wooden building cubes)
  • Building Cards (each lists ten objects a player can attempt to build)
  • Challenge Cards (each sets a building condition and a time limit)
  • Building Mats (one per player)
  • Score Track board (has a "Highest Score Wins" side for 3-6 players and a co-operative Level Track side for 2 players)
  • Guesser token
  • Steal Tokens (one per player)

Setup

Turn the Score Track to the "Highest Score Wins" side. Place all the blocks in a pile in the middle of the table, where everyone can reach them.

Shuffle the deck of Challenge Cards and place them face down in the middle.

Shuffle the Building Cards and deal one to each player. These cards contain the objects you will be attempting to build — keep them secret. If you don't know what something on your card is, you can look it up on your phone, but remember you can only build something from your list once per game, so try to be street smart.

Each player then takes a Building Mat and a block of the same colour, and places the block on the start of the Score Track.

Finally, each player takes a Steal Token.

Playing a Round

Pick someone to start as the Guesser. They put the Guesser token in front of them and take a look at the first Challenge Card.

The Guesser reads out the challenge and the time allowed, while everyone else secretly chooses something on their Building Card to create from the blocks. Before you begin, remember: no greedy grabbing — there are plenty of blocks to go around.

When everyone is ready, the Guesser starts a timer (on a phone) and building begins.

When the time is up, hands off. It is time for the Guesser to try to guess what each other player has built.

Scoring and Stealing

  • If the Guesser correctly guesses what a player built, the Guesser and that Builder each score one point.
  • If the Guesser cannot correctly identify a build, any other player may use their Steal Token to guess it themselves. If they guess correctly, the Builder whose object it was scores a point, and the player who stole the guess also scores a point. Each player may only steal once per round — flip your Steal Token over once you have used it, and turn it back face-up at the start of the next round.
  • If nobody — neither the Guesser nor any other player using a Steal Token — can identify what was built, no points are scored for that object, and the Builder reveals what they made.

Once every build has been guessed at (or not), check the Challenge Card's condition. Only builds that were correctly guessed are eligible: whichever correctly-guessed build best satisfies the challenge (for example, the tallest, for a "build the tallest object" challenge) wins its Builder a bonus point. A build that meets the challenge but was never correctly identified cannot win the bonus.

Move each scoring player's block forward along the Score Track by the number of points they earned that round.

A new round then begins with a new player taking the Guesser token. Keep going until everyone has been the Guesser at least once.

Winning the Game

The player who has moved the furthest around the Score Track is the winner. Highest score wins.

Number of Rounds

The Score Track's "Highest Score Wins" side sets how many rounds to play, by player count:

PlayersRounds
36
44
55
66

Two-Player Co-operative Mode

Block Party also has a co-operative version for two players, using the other side of the Score Track board: a Level Track running from Level 1 to Level 10. Each level sets a shorter time limit and a lower (or equal) maximum number of blocks than the one before, printed directly on the track:

LevelTimeMax blocks
11 minuteno max
21 minute15
345 seconds14
445 seconds13
545 seconds12
630 seconds12
730 seconds8
830 seconds5
915 seconds5
1015 seconds3

The track also carries bonus icons on the arrows between certain levels: advancing from Level 2 to Level 3 and from Level 6 to Level 7 each award 2 hearts, advancing from Level 8 to Level 9 awards 1 heart, and advancing from Level 4 to Level 5 awards an extra Building Card. Hearts are tracked on a printed row of ten heart spaces alongside the Level Track. Three spaces on the track are marked "1 Word Hint", each allowing a one-word clue to be given.

Challenge Cards

Every round is set by a Challenge Card, which names a building condition and a time limit. The cards seen include:
