Set Up

  1. First, remove all 7 happy emotions and set aside. Shuffle the deck.
  2. Deal 7 emotions (face down), and 1x happy (face up) to each player, so everyone starts by feeling happy.
  3. Pick up and look at your hand, but don't show your emotions to anyone else...YET!
  4. Put the remaining happy cards in the deck. Shuffle and place face down on the table. This is the HIDDEN PILE.
  5. To play an emotion, show it face up next to the hidden pile. This is the SHOW PILE. The player with the biggest smile starts.

Taking a Turn

  1. Play an emotion: To take a turn, choose an emotion to play from your hand, placing it face up on the show pile.
  2. Feel the emotion: Follow the action on the emotion, and you'll soon see that players will actually be feeling the emotion played. Your real emotions take over the game. (Example on the poster: play BORED, and "Pick a player to miss a turn. You'll soon see them feeling bored!")
  3. Pick an emotion: To end your turn, draw an emotion from the hidden pile. If it's a HAPPY card, show it on the table in front of you. Draw again to end with 7 in your hand.

An Example Turn

Example 1: PLAYER 1 launches an ANNOYED ATTACK on PLAYER 2 to take their happiness (x2). Making them feel quite annoyed! PLAYER 2 blocks you by feeling SMUG, which stops any attack. Leaving PLAYER 1 feeling annoyed instead. Your happiness is safe...for now.

You must both pick up a hidden emotion so all players end a turn with 7.

Example 2: You think a player has an emotion you need, so you play CURIOUS asking the player; "I'm curious, do you have OVERJOYED?"

  • If "YES", then PLAYER 2 must give the OVERJOYED card to PLAYER 1, and pick up a hidden emotion.
  • If "NO", then PLAYER 1 must pick up a hidden emotion to end their turn with 7 cards.

A Few Other Things to Remember

  • Whenever you find or seize HAPPINESS, you must show it on the table in front of you.
  • When taking a turn, make sure all players end their turn with 7 emotions in their hand.
  • If the HIDDEN pile runs out, shuffle the SHOW pile, turnover it over, and continue.
  • You can only play a SHOCKED card once in a game.
  • You CAN'T block a SMUG with a SMUG.
  • When you have TICKLED PINK in your hand, keeping hold of it can be an emotional challenge. Do NOT show it until you have 6x HAPPINESS. When you do play it straight away to seize your victory and never ending happiness!
  • The more you let your real emotions show, the funnier and happier it is for all players.

Warning: The happier you are, the more envious opponents will become.

The Emotions

A guide to the various emotion types and their actions.

Attack: Other Players Making Them Feel...

  • Frustrated: Take 1x happiness from a player.
  • Annoyed: Take 2x happiness from a player.
  • Outraged: Take ALL happiness from a player.

Defend: Unless They Can Defend Themselves by Feeling...

  • Smug: Block any angry attack or other emotion (except an emotional power, which is unblockable).

Control: How Other Players Feel

  • Bored: Pick a player to miss a turn. Watch them yawn!
  • Flirty: Choose a player, and pick one card blind from each other.
  • Cheeky: See a player's hand. Grab their best card. They pick up from the hidden pile.
  • Optimistic: See the top 3 cards on the hidden pile. Keep 1 and any happiness.
  • Curious: Ask a player for a card you want. If 'YES' take it, and they pick up, if 'NO', you pick up.

Emotional Powers That Can't Be Stopped

(No SMUG cards allowed.)

  • Magical: Take 2x happiness from a chosen player.
  • Creative: This can become any emotion, except an emotional power.
  • Shocked: Pick a player to put ALL happiness into hidden pile. Shuffle. Only play once in a game.
  • Jealous: Steal 1x happiness from a player. They take from the hidden pile.
  • Glum: Pick a player to put 1x happiness back in hidden pile. Shuffle.

Feel Overjoyed

(No SMUG.)

  • Overjoyed: If someone plays a FRUSTRATED, ANNOYED or OUTRAGED attack on you, smile sweetly, and feel OVERJOYED by playing this to reverse the action, by taking their happiness instead. Now watch their face! It's the gold at the end of the rainbow. Playing it at the right time can lead to victory and a feeling of utter joy.

Tickled Pink

  • Tickled Pink: Keep hold of this in your hand until you achieve 6x happiness. Then show your inner happiness by placing it next to them, to win the game early feeling TICKLED PINK! But like catching a butterfly, it's easier said than done!

Simple Emotions and Positive Power

You can play one simple emotion to take your turn, and pick up from the hidden pile, or you can play...

  • Emotional Pairs: Play a matching emotional pair to pick any one emotion from the show pile, and the top one from the hidden pile.
  • Play the Rainbow: Smugness won't work here! Feel brave enough to play 1x every simple emotion to take 1 happy emotion from one player, plus 5 new emotions from the hidden pile.

The simple emotions shown on the poster are Funny, Surprised, Scared, Angry and Sad. The poster does not print their individual effects legibly at this resolution, so they are listed by name only here.

Winning

  • Seize all the happiness first. 7 to win!
  • Or play TICKLED PINK once you have 6x happiness to win the game early.
