Game Basics

  • Players: 1 - 99
  • Game Time: 10 minutes
  • Components: A Blankout sheet per player & 1d6

Setup

  1. Give each player a Blankout sheet.
  2. Roll 1d6.
  3. Find the corresponding "Starting Shapes" shape and place it on the board. You may rotate or flip the shape. One of the squares from the "Starting Shapes" shape must overlap the center square.

Gameplay

  1. Roll 1d6.
  2. Find the corresponding "Playing Shapes" shape and place it on the board. You may rotate or flip the shape. At least one of the squares from the "Playing Shapes" shape must orthogonally touch an existing shape already on the board.
  3. Repeat until the Game End state is reached.

Game End

  1. The first player unable to place a "Playing Shapes" shape is out. Last player in wins.
  2. If multiple players are unable to place a "Playing Shapes" shape at the same time, count the number of blank spaces left on the board. The player with the largest contiguous block of blank spaces wins. If that block has the same number of blank spaces, count the second largest contiguous block and so on until a winner is determined.
  3. SOLO PLAY: At Game End, the number of shapes placed is your final score.

Components

Blankout Sheet

Each player uses one Blankout sheet. The sheet is printed as two boards, Board A and Board B. Each board has:

  • A 9 x 9 grid with a shaded center square.
  • A set of six numbered "Playing Shapes" (labelled 1 to 6), printed on the left side of the sheet.
  • A set of six numbered "Starting Shapes" (labelled 1 to 6), printed on the right side of the sheet, with shapes shaded grey.

Printed notes on the sheet:

  1. Starting Shape must overlap center square.
  2. Playing Shape must touch (not overlap) at least one square to another square already on the grid.
