Avatar Card Anatomy

  • A. Avatar Effect: The Effect indicated by the Avatar Effect symbol on the Avatar Card must be resolved whenever the Effect of a Command Card shows the Avatar Effect symbol.
  • B. Avatar Tool: The Avatar uses a Tool, which is indicated in Effects with the Tool symbol (a gear). Jukas' Tool is the Vortex Token.
  • C. Avatar Skills: Jukas has the Avatar Skills explained in detail on the back cover of this manual.

Avatar Card (printed text)

The Jukas Avatar Card shows the following stats: Health 11, Strength 2, Speed 1.

Its Effect text reads:

  • Avatar Effect symbol: places 1 Vortex Token.
  • Places 1 Instability in each Room with 1 Vortex Token in it.
  • Each Room with all its Instability Slots occupied is immediately rebuilt.

The card's bottom panel shows the three Jukas Priority rows, set out under Jukas Priority below.

Jukas Setup

Apply the following steps during Step 3 of the Avatar Setup:

  • Clip the Avatar Base to the Jukas Model.
  • Place the Model of Jukas in the Throne Room.
  • Place a Vortex Token in the Throne Room and in each Room adjacent to it.

Avatar Special Rules — Jukas

Vortex Token

Some of the Effects related to Jukas place a Vortex Token in a Room. A Room may contain a single Vortex Token. If an Effect indicates to place a Vortex Token in a Room that already has one, or indicates to place one but no Vortex Tokens are present in the game pool, no Vortex Token is placed.

Vortex Tokens follow these rules:

  • Resolved Spell: after a Mage (other than Jukas) has resolved the Effect of one of their Spells while in a Room that contains a Vortex Token, they must take that token and place it on their Mage Card. A Vortex Token that is on a Mage Card is not considered to be in the Lodge.
  • Clean-up Phase: at the end of Step 2 of the Clean-up Phase, in play order, Mages must discard all the Vortex Tokens they have from their Mage Card. If a Mage discards two or more Vortex Tokens in this way, they draw a Forgotten Spell.

Avatar Skills — Jukas

Teleportation

When Jukas has to resolve an Effect which indicates the Teleportation Skill, even though he is in his Cell, his Model is placed in the target Room (Priority 1 or 2) or the Room the target is in (Priority 3).

Vortices of Power

When a Room containing a Vortex Token is Rebuilt, Jukas gains 2 Power Points. (The Token remains in the Room.)

Jukas Priority

Note on icons: the manual prints the priority rows with symbols. They are written out here as follows: a hexagon outline is a Room; a Mage figure is a Mage; a gear is a Vortex Token; a black swirl disc is Instability; a solid rose with stem is the Black Rose; a broken heart is Damage; the outline rose is Power Points (the manual prints it as an icon with no word; it is read as Power Points from the Vortices of Power skill, which grants Power Points, and from the Priority rules, which use the Power Points term in the base game). The numbered diamond is the priority level.

Priority 1 (target: Room): Jukas chooses as a target:

  • +Mage: the Room with the most Mages, if tied...
  • −Vortex Token: the Room with no Vortex Token, if tied...
  • +Instability: the Room with the most Instability, if tied, the Choice of the Crown applies.

Priority 2 (target: Room): Jukas chooses as a target:

  • +Instability ≠ Black Rose: the Room with the most Instability not placed by the Black Rose, if tied...
  • +Instability: the Room with the most Instability, if tied...
  • +Mage: the Room with the most Mages, if tied, the Choice of the Crown applies.

Priority 3 (target: Mage): Jukas chooses as a target:

  • +Vortex Token: the Mage who has the most Vortex Tokens on their Mage Card, if tied...
  • +Power Points: the Mage who has the most Power Points, if tied...
  • +Damage: the Mage who has the most Damage, if tied, the Choice of the Crown applies.
