Summary

BIRTH is a game that advances the Player's piece using a die. Players compete amongst each other to gain scores by placing the dice strategically in five areas. The winner is the Player with the highest score from the total of absolute scores given to each dice and from the relative scores that are evaluated for each area.

To achieve an awesome victory be sure to use the three rules! – "Birth" to reroll the die that has been placed, "Jump" to increase the movement of the piece, and "Break" to reroll the dice in hand.

Components

  • Game board: 1
  • Pieces: 3
  • Dices (Red): 11
  • Dices (Blue): 11
  • Dices (Yellow): 11
  • Score sheet: 1

Setup

Players will receive a set of dice and a piece that have been color-coded.

Open the game board.

(Board diagram labels: Ring, Area, Area number, Point; the start point, with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd starting spaces.)

The Game starts with the Players moving clockwise. The first Player (Start Player) is who has seen a shooting star most recently.

The Start Player puts his/her piece at the start point.

The second and the third Players, clockwise from the Start Player place their pieces in the next spaces from the start point and moves clockwise.

The Players will swing all the dice in unison as they imagine the creation of the BIG BANG.

The Players draw a dice close by and will manage not to change the die roll.

Now ready to play!

How to Play

The basic flow of the game is very simple.

  1. Each player chooses one of the dice at hand in his/her turn.
  2. Proceed the piece by the number of dice. Direction of the piece: it proceed clockwise 15 sections along the ring.
  3. Place the chosen die with securing die roll on an attached area of the section where the piece has stopped. Attachment: the sections placed on arcs of each area belong to the area.

That's the end of this turn.

The players will take turns in clockwise, when all the dice at hand is placed on the board the game finishes.

Other Rules

Jump

If the piece of the other players had been placed before you move the piece, you can proceed further with the number of die you chose.

Example: If your chosen die roll is 3 and a piece of the other had been placed, go ahead three more sections. If there's another piece there, go ahead again three more sections.

Birth

In the area you put the die, if there is a die with the same die roll as your placed die, remove all the dice of the same die roll and reroll then return to the area.

Example: Player of the green is trying to put the die with die roll of 6 in the area of 2. A blue die with die roll of 6 have been placed in the area. The player remove those two dice and reroll them. Then return them to the area of 2. Even if the die roll are same when returning the rerolled dice, you do not have to reroll them.

Break

If a piece has stopped at start point, reroll all the dice in hand.

End of Game

When the game is finished, count the scores.

The winner is the highest number of the total of the absolute score and the relative score!

If there are more than one person is the highest number, all of them share the victory.

Pieces on the board and a score sheet are used to keep the score.

Absolute Score

The score equal to the number of area where the dice are placed will be given to the players.

Each player will add up the absolute score of dice of their own.

Example: The red dice are located as follows in each area.

AreaRed dicePoints
Area 13 dices3 points
Area 22 dices4 points
Area 31 dice3 points
Area 53 dices15 points
Area 82 dices16 points

The absolute score of players in red is 41 points which is the sum of these.

Relative Score

Compares the sum of the die rolls of each colour in each area, the player of the colour of the highest score will earn a score equal to the sum of the dice rolls.

If more than one players are the highest, all of them earn scores.

Example: die rolls of each colour in the area of 1 are as follows. Red: 10, Blue: 13, Yellow: 12. Because 13 of blue is the highest, blue player get 13 points. Do the same in all areas. The result is as follows. Red player: 58 points; Blue player: 56 points; Yellow player: 48 points. The red player won!

Advice: It will be easier to count if you sort out the dice of the corresponding colour for each area as shown in the figure when counting the relative scores.

Variant Rules

Introducing the derived rules to enjoy more difficult games.

Advanced Rules

These rules are completely different from the normal rules to enjoy the game intensely for the advanced users.

Add the following two changes to the normal rules.

1) Change the rule of the "Bath" to the following rule:

Eject

When there were dice in other colours with the same die roll as the die of the player in the same area, move all of other colour dice to one of adjacent area of the player's choice.

Example: The blue player placed a die with the die roll of 6 in the area of 8. Three dice (red, blue, and yellow) with same die roll of 6 were placed already in the area of 8. By the rules of "Eject", a red die and a yellow die of die roll of 6 must be moved to an adjacent area of 1 or area of 5. Blue player moved the red and the yellow dice to the area of 5.

(Note: "Bath" is printed as such in the English rules; it refers to the "Birth" rule above.)

2) Change relative score counting to the following rules:

After compares the number of dice of each color in each area, the player who has the largest number of same colored dice earns points as the sum of the dice.

If there are more than one player having the largest number of dice a player with the lowest total of the dice wins the points.

In case of a tie game, all the players are able to get the points.

Example: the number and color of the dice in each area is as below.

AreaRedBlueYellow
Area 1334
Area 2233
Area 3130
Area 5323
Area 8211

The total value of the dice will be added as the number of the color dice the maximum number of that in each area (in bold). If there are more than one player who has the maximum number of dice, the point will be got by the player who has the minimum number of total value of the dice. As a result, the relative number will be shown as the figure (Totals shown: 19, 26, 7).

Relative Limited Rules

This is an optional rule to simplify the calculation of point for normal rule or advance rule.

It would be probably difficult to find the optimal choice if not an experience player as the target setting is difficult.

One change can be added to normal rule or advanced rule.

1) Exclusion of absolute number: exclude absolute number from point calculation and only give point for relative.

Bonus Track

The Game Board have a reversible design.

On the back of the board, Area and mass are placed differently so with the same rule you can the game with a different sensation.
